Mentorship offer accepted

@TheAwesomeHwyh: I just have a couple of questions. Am I the first editor that you have mentored/are going to mentor? If so, then why did you choose me in particular? King of Scorpions 20:27, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@King of Scorpions: I had offered it to someone else before, but they were just a vandal and were banned. I think I choose you mostly because you remind me of myself when I first started editing Wikipedia. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:10, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@TheAwesomeHwyh: I'm surprised and gladdened by that statement that I remind you of yourself when you started editing. Maybe there's hope for me after all. I would be willing to start the mentorship on 1/31, but I wouldn't be available for the two days after that. Or we could start on Feb. 3, and I would (probably) be available the rest of the week. (I don't edit on weekends.) Let me know what you think, King of Scorpions 23:05, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Scorpions: The 31st is fine. TheAwesomeHwyh 23:12, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@TheAwesomeHwyh: Sounds like a deal, then. We'll work out the technicalities of which talk page our discussions are on when the time comes. However, if it ends up on mine, maybe you could add my talk page to your watchlist so I don't have to "ping" you with every single comment? I check my talk page regularly. Let me know what you think. Signing off for now, King of Scorpions 01:36, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

February2020: "Of"

Hi there, KOS. My monitor is chronically underilluminated. This means that your signature give your user name as "of". I recommend that you choose a lighter background for your sig, as others may be experiencing the same problem.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:56, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I see above that you have modified your sig. Thanks.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:57, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it really wasn't very readable. It looked cool, but wasn't easy to read. This new one still has all my links in it and can be deciphered by mortals... King of Scorpions (my talk) 16:30, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Right, but your Talk page is not linked in that sig. What if the green "of" was Talk, and Scorpions was "Contributions"?--Quisqualis (talk) 22:27, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Umm... I think it isn't linked because it's on my talk page. If it was anywhere else, it would be linked. Other people's signatures do the same thing, I think... King of Scorpions (my talk) 16:35, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Clever! Never noticed before.--Quisqualis (talk) 15:25, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

Hi King of Scorpions. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! – Juliancolton | Talk 23:14, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A cookie for you!

I've seen you around a few times in the past few days. You ask good questions and seem determined to learn new things. Anyways, I hope you have a good day! Clovermoss (talk) 01:23, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Clovermoss: Thanks for the cookies! I do in fact like learning new things. A lot of my questions do end up getting answered since TheAwesomeHwyh started mentoring me (see the section of my talk with 13 subsections)... King of Scorpions 21:13, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I went through WP:AAU, with Nick Moyes as my adopter. It's kind of nice to see someone else having their own journey on Wikipedia. Clovermoss (talk) 21:12, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Was just coming to drop my own positives on asking questions - it's finding bits in Wikipedia interesting to ask about that ultimately tipped my old but inactive account into an active one. My culinary attempts last weekend have demonstrated I can't make cookies, so I'm just going to rely on Clovermoss'. Nosebagbear (talk) 10:48, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mentorship Subpage

I saw you have a long thread at the top of this talk page - an ongoing mentorship conversation. I didn't know if you knew about user subpages or not, but if you wanted to, you could create something like User:King of Scorpions/Mentorship and move that conversation there so it doesn't clutter up your talk page. Obviously you don't have to do that if you prefer it on your talk page, it was just a suggestion in case it was something you hadn't considered. Useight (talk) 15:17, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Useight: I'd actually been considering it for a while:D. The discussions have been moved... King of Scorpions 16:37, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, now I feel bad for messing with your stuff. Useight (talk) 18:33, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I actually like it better this way... King of Scorpions 20:35, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Cloudstone requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Hello (something helpful - hopefully)

Hi, I noticed that you reverted an edit by 16btaylor on List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2020 and that you used the '{{subst:uw-test2}}' template to warn the user. I've been following your progress with your mentor and wanted to leave a note (hopefully helpful) about user warnings for this specific case (given that when I'm around, I do quite a bit of anti-vandalism). What I wanted to say is; you don't have to linearly raise the warning level from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4... You can instead escalate the warning level, especially when an edit could be considered a significant breach of WP's editing standards. Looking at the edit made by that user, you could very easily say that putting someone's name into a mass shooting article would be a severe breach of WP's editing standards, wouldn't you say so too? I'd just also like to thank you for your anti-vandalism efforts, they are much appreciated. If you have any questions about this or anything else, my talk page is always open to you, Best wishes. -=Troop=- (talk) 01:19, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Hi, and welcome. it’s really nice to see a new editor taking such an interest and so keen. If you decide you want to start a new page or add content and need some help, please just drop by my talk page. Best wishes Giano (talk) 18:36, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Giano: I don't really have anything I need help with right now. Thanks for the offer of help, though! Actually, I do have a question. Do you know why a lot of people create accounts that make one edit and then never edit again? (I see that a lot as a Recent changes viewer...) King of Scorpions 18:44, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I expect it’s just people who have a single purpose or reason to edit. Perhaps to edit their own biographies or even just to register their chosen name or see if checkuser picks them automatically. Perhaps they just want to see what happens when one registers. Glad to see you’ve learnt how to “ping.” That’s always very useful. Giano (talk) 18:54, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've also figured out Template:Hidden ping and Template:User link. Those are both helpful as well, I've found. King of Scorpions 19:02, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh well done! That’s all far too complicated and stressful for me. I’m sure you’ll pick up everything you need to know very quickly indeed. Giano (talk) 19:17, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Giano: It helps that I have a mentor... King of Scorpions 19:30, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thats good, he’s excellent. If you do ever want to try content, there’s a fun little page: Cotswold Olimpick Games. It has a few layout and grammatical problems, it’s been on my watchlist for ages. If you ever want to learn on it, I’m happy to keep a benign eye while you do so. Happy editing. Giano (talk) 19:36, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Giano:Wait. If it has all these problems, then how is it an FA?? King of Scorpions 19:37, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing ever reaches perfection here. Giano (talk) 19:40, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Giano:True, but I have seen better articles that aren't even GA. I mean, one source is the organization's website... will go edit it now. I found some things that I can improve... King of Scorpions 19:57, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • First content lesson: no citations are required in the lead. Giano (talk) 20:09, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know that. King of Scorpions 20:11, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. Now you’ve learnt something important. Now see if you can research a new fact for Andrea Palma. Content editing really is the best thing ever.Giano (talk)
Content creation is good. However, I've found that I much prefer smaller fixes to articles (grammar, formatting, etc.). Occasionally I will do major work on an article that interests me, though. (I've created one article, and am working on another that's still in userspace...) King of Scorpions 20:41, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I also do anti-vandalism. King of Scorpions 20:42, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thats fantastic. You’ve now learnt not to be afraid of touching the highest and the lowest. Be Bold is Wikipedia’s motto. My motto is Content is Best. Giano (talk) 20:48, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Giano: My mentor hasn't edited in the last couple days, so I was wondering if you had any sage advice for me? King of Scorpions 17:51, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh, I don’t think there’s much I can teach you. You seem to have the hang of things very quickly indeed. Do ask, though, if there’s anything specific. However, I don’t do templates or anything that involves “{}” There’s always a bot to sort those for you. Giano (talk) 20:24, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Scorpions: sorry about that, I'm back now. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:14, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question about assessment

Hi, I noticed that you're basically the main "reassessor" of WP:WPVG and I was a little curious about the methods to determine article ratings. I've been rewriting the Armored Core franchise articles to substantially improve the quality through the articles, and I was wondering what was missing from the articles that prevented them from reaching B-Class. I was using the B-Class Criteria guidelines when working them out, so I'd like to get some insight on what you think needs to be improved to bring them up to B. Granted, I do plan on adding screenshots and some additional information that I've been gathering in the future (after I at least get the remaining articles to "workable" status), but thoughts on what's missing can help me find the best path forward. — seadoubleyoujay [talk] [contrib] [海倍君ジェイ] 22:15, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Seadoubleyoujay: (Note: this assessment method could work on almost any article) I'm glad you asked. I assess it on the number and quality of the references, how the inline citations line up with the text, the quality of the text, and the quality/relevance/existence of the images. If it helps, I nearly rated some of them B-class but made a hard decision to choose C-class instead. Hope this helps, King of Scorpions 00:47, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for intruding but could you give Judgment (video game) a look to see what are its issues that need to be solved to become B?Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 00:22, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Uhm... it is B-class, and I agree with that rating. It was already rated B, I just didn't contest that. Does that help? King of Scorpions 00:46, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thought it was C. Thanks still.Tintor2 (talk) 00:52, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tintor2: I almost think it could make it to GA if someone more experienced than I could nominate it... Also, don't be sorry for posting on my talk page. I really don't mind... King of Scorpions 00:57, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've made some articles GA like Takayuki Yagami since they are quite small. On the other hand, I find it difficult to turn Judgment into GA due to its size. If you feel like it, nominate it. Still I kind of think it might need a copyedit due to its recent expansion in some sections.Tintor2 (talk) 01:00, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Truthfully, I have no idea how to nominate a GA... I did do a little copyediting to the article, though. King of Scorpions 01:05, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually quite simple, Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions. Once a user believes the article can pass the criteria they tag the talk page, add category and wait for a review.Tintor2 (talk) 01:40, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding citation to table

Hello King of Scorpions,

Do you know how I can cite a source on the Daniel Kelly page? I created an election table (which I made in formatting to look similar to the tables for David Prosser Jr. since I wasn't sure how to make one). I have a source for the results (here), but do you know how I should put that into the article?

Thanks! TheTheJay31 (talk) 02:15, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TheTheJay31: Adding a citation to a table isn't hard; you simply put it in a certain parameter the way you put in a usual ref (between the <ref> and </ref> tags). I usually use the source editor to put in the bare URL, then the Visual Editor to complete the ref. Hope this helps, King of Scorpions 15:53, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@TheTheJay31: Were these the changes you wanted to make? If not, feel free to undo them. King of Scorpions 16:06, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Scorpions: Thank you for the help! I figured out how to put the citation on the table using the source editor (usually I use the visual editor). TheTheJay31 (talk) 17:33, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@TheTheJay31: I'm glad to be of assistance. Also, good job on figuring out Template:Ping! King of Scorpions 18:33, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How are you?

How are you today?   ApChrKey   Talk 22:11, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
