Hello from Chinense

Greetings MusikTalk,

Regarding the Marie Sharp's wikipage, I have uploaded new pictures I took personally with my own camera. i wanted to share this with you before I took the time to edit the page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Sharp's.

Importantly, i noticed that my TEXT edits were also deleted, of which I do not have a copy. I will search the site to determine if they are saved somewhere. I did not realize text edits accompanying pictures were also rejected simultaneously.

Thank you for your time and contribution to the community! Chinense (talk) 15:16, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Chinense: No problem! I will help you. However there are still issues with your images. They appear to be taken from a website, but no explicit permission has been granted. Even if you are the photographer we need proof these are properly licensed, as the website claims they are copyrighted. More at WP:DONATEIMAGE. Your images may be deleted again, but don't worry, we can restore them once we get the permission we need. The same goes for your text. Don't worry, basically nothing on Wikipedia can be "deleted" forever. Your text is in the revision history and we'll restore it once we get the images sorted out. Please reply here indicating you've read WP:DONATEIMAGE and taken the necessary procedures. If you're confused on what to do just say so, I'll help :) MusikAnimal talk 15:28, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, all recent pictures I submitted were photographed with my own Nikon D5000 camera using a Nikkor 70-300mm lens at a live event on Saturday, September 23rd, 2016. They have never been on a website. Maybe you are referring to the original batch of images that were uploaded and not the most recent batch I uploaded prior to messaging you today. Copies of pictures can be viewed here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7c943xj7wpk2vah/AAA-EexEYdbLoa01pVuvm1g1a?dl=0 Thank you for your assistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chinense (talkcontribs)
@Chinense: Oh dear! You are correct, I don't know where I thought I saw it, but indeed it's not on any website. My apologies! Okay, now that we've got that out of the way, let's get down to business :) What images would like to use? My personal favourite is File:Marie Sharp receiving HOF award @ 2016 NYC Hot Sauce Expo 03.JPG, which shows Marie Sharp herself. I've gone ahead and added this to Marie Sharp's. Given the size of the article, we probably should only add one image. If you want to use a different one that's fine; Just update the image and description using the same syntax.
By the way... there was a Hot Sauce Expo in New York City, this past Saturday!??!! AND I MISSED IT!? You mean to tell me I could have seen Mrs Sharp herself!? Ah man... I live in the East Village, so not far away from where this took place. Oh well, maybe next year! =P
Anyway thank you very much for uploading these fine images! Happy to help you further in any way, just ask :) MusikAnimal talk 04:07, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your assistance and patience. I am new to this but I endeavor to be a fast learner. Yes. I was in your fine town from the 21-26th. Marie is a dear friend and it is my honor to share time with her. Her husband is very ill so her time in Brooklyn was short.
Because many professional photographers attended the event, and she is the Queen of Habenero, there are numerous similar shots circulating, so you are just doing your job and I respect that immensely.
I ate my way through the East Villlage, it's my favorite place on earth to try out innovative new spots. One of my favorite new vegan spots is Mother of Pearl, and I love Motorino, Ivan Ramen and topping it all off with Odd Fellows! Chinense (talk) 11:50, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Chinense: Awesome that you know Marie personally. I would love to meet her. The Smoked Habanero sauce is my favourite of hers, and I've still got a big bottle of Beware that I've been afraid to try. Glad you enjoyed the East Village! I guess I need to take more advantage of all the places to eat. Mother of Pearl and Motorino are both fantastic, but I haven't tried Ivan Ramen or Odd Fellows. It seems there's an endless supply of places to try here, after living here for three years I feel like I haven't scratched the surface.
Anyway I hope you're enjoying Wikipedia! There's tons of fun topics to write about, and we'd love your help in any area you wish to participate in. In particular you may be interested in WikiProject Food and drink, or check out some of the tons of other WikiProjects at Wikipedia:WikiProject Directory. Going to invite you to play the Wikipedia Adventure, which can jumpstart the learning process. Cheers MusikAnimal talk 04:09, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Making a userbox

Hi, I saw on your page you were happy to help new users, and I wondered if you could help me create a userbox. I love userboxes, and I wanted to make one that fit me. I am a ballet dancer, and I wanted to create a ballerina userbox. Will you help me? Elsa Enchanted 21:26, 28 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elsa Enchanted (talkcontribs)

(talk page stalker) @Elsa Enchanted: Try {{User Ballet}} or {{User:UBX/ballet dancing}}. If you have joined WikiProject Ballet, you could use {{User WikiProject Ballet}}. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:25, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Redrose! Also Elsa Enchanted you can search for whatever userbox you want in the gallery. There's an overwhelming selection of stuff in there! Best MusikAnimal talk 22:52, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New template - to me anyway

Hi again MusikAnimal. Today I came across a "pp" template format that I haven't seen before. Here is an example. I wanted to check and make sure that the configuration does not cause problems with your bots removal work. If you are already aware of it then that is great. On another note this sandbox template Template:Block-reason/sandbox is now in the cat and it looks like it might be akin to the ones from a few days ago. If you or Redrose64 could work your magic on it that would be a help. As ever thanks for your time. MarnetteD|Talk 00:01, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's just {{pp|vandalism|small=yes}} that's been written multiline. You can do that with pretty much any template, you just need to be careful to number the positional parameters explicitly (as in |1=vandalism) so that the newline (and other whitespace) gets stripped. --Redrose64 (talk) 10:04, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User script request

Would it be possible to create a user script that automated the process of closing Requested moves discussions. Also, a script for accepting/declining WP:Articles for creation/Redirects requests? Music1201 talk 00:53, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes this certainly would be possible. I'm not sure if such scripts exist, though. Unfortunately I've got a backlog of techy work myself, so I'm of no help :/ MusikAnimal talk 04:31, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 GA Cup-Round 3

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 3

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Thursday saw the end of Round 2. Sainsf once again took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 996 (a higher score then he received in Round 1!). In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 541 points, and in third place, Carbrera received 419 points.

In Round 2, 142 reviews were completed! At the beginning of April, there were 486 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 384. Another demonstrable way in which this competition has made a difference is in the length of time articles languish in the queue. At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 9 months [5]; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased significantly, to a little over 5 months.[6] It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep lowering the backlog as much as possible.

To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. We had an unusual occurrence happen in Round 2: because only one contestant submitted reviews in one pool, we selected the contestant with the next highest score to move forward to Round 3. (There will be a rule change for future competitions in case something like this happens again.) For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 will start on May 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on May 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Mail - protection

MusikAnimal, that protection clearly did not help, the editor is already back in another way elsewhere. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:11, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Beetstra: I emailed you, let's discuss there MusikAnimal talk 05:13, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also I'm assuming this was needed MusikAnimal talk 05:35, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was needed. My apologies for that. --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:08, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the email - replied quickly there. Discussion may be better on-wiki, as I have limited access to email here. --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:05, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Beetstra: Alright, can you talk on IRC? Maybe we should move this to WP:EFN. Note this is nowhere near an "emergency". Emergencies are when the disruption is at a very high-rate, e.g. some popular website instructed people to go vandalize Wikipedia in some way, or there is a spammer with an automated program. Even then, you would still give the filter at least some time, however brief, before putting into disallow MusikAnimal talk 14:58, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I broke the wiki ;-)

Looks like my new username breaks the parts of Template:Rfplinks that use anchorencode (logs, block and presumably accounts created if I had that perm). for (;;) (talk) 11:42, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AIV redirect vandal - edit filter?

Hi - are you aware of the vandal who keeps redirecting AIV to various dumb articles? Is there a way to stop it with an edit filter? We're having to semi AIV for six hours at a time and he's coming right back and doing it again within an hour of protection expiration. We've got a couple of IPs who regularly make good reports now and they're being forced to go to ANI, which is no good for anyone. Katietalk 16:26, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I can work on something. Cheers MusikAnimal talk 16:32, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, it seems to be coming from the same IP range (or ranges). RickinBaltimore (talk) 16:33, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You are so full of the awesomesauce. He really tripped it around noon CDT, then changed IPs to a static at Georgia Tech which Widr blocked, and nothing since. Poor guy must have all the frustrations. That's why I like pending changes so much – I can just see them sitting there screaming "why won't they let me tell the world that Bobbi Jo is a skank?!?" and beating their heads against their nightstands. :-D Katietalk 18:29, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Technical Barnstar
For saving AIV from insipid redirect vandalism and causing massive angst among all the vandals with your expert use of the edit filters, and for your most amazing contributions to Twinkle, and for response helper – the admin corps owes you a great debt. Thank you. Katietalk 18:34, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Seconding this barnstar if I may (thanks for the ping, Katie!). ;-) Widr (talk) 18:47, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Haha thank you both!!! Making me blush here. I'm glad my nerdy tendencies have come to some good. I just need to convince my old lady of that =P MusikAnimal talk 19:15, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Now watch as I quietly step in, connect your barn-star to my chain and my chain to my wiki-scooter, and drive away. :D—cyberpowerChat:Online 20:30, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually speaking as the "AIV redirect vandal," I decided to work the system a little bit. I was curious to see how much I needed to vandalize Wikipedia AIV before you protected it long term, but it seems you decided to create an edit filter instead. Then I decided to test the edit filter to see what would trip it up, and noticed that my edits did trip it up as I expected them to. So then I was curious as to whether or not the same edits would trip it up if made from a completely different IP outside of that range, so I tried to make the same type of edit from a static Georgia Tech IP, and I was surprised to see that the edits did not trip the edit filter, so then my plan was to self-revert it, but Widr beat me to it and blocked me. So it seems you have found a good alternative to long-term page protection. Good job guys, you have succeeded in stopping the vandalism! 107.77.233.92 (talk) 05:15, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please protect Radiohead. There is vandalism every half second. CLCStudent (talk) 16:02, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done Guess there was an indefinite semi lost after the full protection expired. Thanks for the report! PS – The new single from them is fantastic :) MusikAnimal talk 16:05, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please consider protection of the article. Someone from the ISP:Weld County School District Six vandalizes the article systematically with changing IP´s. looks like he wants to show us that he can´t be blocked. JimRenge (talk) 16:23, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IF statement

There seems to be some sort of caching issue with the IF statement for the "pp" template. Could you stop by the ref desk talk page and offer your insight? Thank you. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 15:25, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Replied there MusikAnimal talk 15:55, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Did you get pinged by my use of the "user" template? Or did you only get a "new message" bar from the message I postedhere at 15:25? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 15:58, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ping definitely worked! Any time you link to a person's userpage, in any way, along with a fresh signature, they'll get a ping (unless they've disabled pings). Note that it must be accompanied by a signature. Additionally, the timestamp must match the time you pinged. So if I add this reply and forget to ping you, when I edit it and add the ping, I'll need to delete my old sig and add a new one, if that makes sense MusikAnimal talk 16:00, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It does. I disabled ping, which is probably why I didn't know what is supposed to happen if or when someone puts my ID into a "user" template. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 16:03, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend re-enabling it! The notification system has improved quite a bit, and many folks don't do anything beyond pinging. So there might have been many heated, controversial discussions that you were involved with where everyone was waiting for your reply, but luckily you had an excuse to plead ignorance :) MusikAnimal talk 16:09, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, I need more controversy. NOT! :) OK, I'll consider it. :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 16:52, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's not sufficient to delete your old sig and add a new one. To trigger a notification, your post must include at least one entirely new line, which must include both the link to the other user and also your signature. So this edit will notify Baseball Bugs. See WP:Echo#Triggering events. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:31, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I had to look it up. I'm sure it was meant to be taken literally, but no SQL injection going on here! I hope MusikAnimal talk 21:05, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd guess not. I actually had to look it up myself, but apparently for (;;) is valid C/Java; it's an infinite loop. I thought it'd be a compile error, myself; while I knew that the initializor and incrementer could be empty, I didn't realize that leaving the terminating condition in the middle empty was allowed, too. Writ Keeper  21:14, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that's wild. Very cool username but ironically it's breaking everything! Maybe this was intentional!? Are you out to break the wiki with for (;;)?! =P In all seriousness, I can definitely fix my bot. I'll look into those templates you mentioned as well MusikAnimal talk 21:23, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
