My Talk

Welcome to Slazenger's talk page!

Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I think I wrote that message on the talk page of the wrong IP address--there were two IP addresses making similar edits, and one of them was worse than the other (You wrote a message on both of their talk pages). I deduced they weren't good faith edits based on the other edits they were making, but you're right, I could have been more constructive. Back to the grind! Hello Slazenger
You received this message because there is a new version of huggle ready for use. Please download http://code.google.com/p/huggle/downloads/detail?name=huggle%202.1.19alpha.exe and do any tests you want on any wiki you can use it on. Please bear in mind it's a testing version and it may contain bugs, so be very carefull. Should you find any issue, please report it immediately to our feedback or tracker. Thank you. I am definitely not a bot, so please send me a message in case you didn't know what is this about, or needed to know anything more. In case there will be no bug reports, stable version will be released in 4 days. In case you don't want to receive this information, please remove yourself as a beta tester of huggle. Thanks for the intervention tonight, it was all quite an eye-opener for me, never having been witness to any deletion before, never mind a speedy one; it was like the Special Forces descending, cleaning everything up and leaving barely a trace behind! Vue

Hey Slazenger,

Do you live at The Vue on Apache? I live there and see this stuff go on everyday. The wiki page is very incorrect.

I am trying to save others from making the same mistake.

The complex is a scam, and should not be allowed to have a wiki page. --User talk:71.223.24.170

I'll respond on your talk page in regards to this. The article is very clearly inaccurate and written as an advertisement, but instead of putting degrading unsourced information in the article, it would be wiser to work to either improve the article and work to have it removed. --Slazenger (Contact Me)

Unsourced...I live there and have seen it with my own eyes. Do you want to see my receipts of them charging me hidden fees? Do you want to see the Police reports of the events I have witnessed?

I have seen three drunk college kids fall off the balconies with my own eyes. One is still in a vegetable state on life support. The other two are dead.

I have photos of the management office having quotes on their whiteboard of "Make that money" with numerous dollar signs next to it.

I am simply trying to save other college kids looking for credible information. This place needs to be put on blast for the truth. Not what they try to sell. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.223.24.170 (talk) 23:47, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

this seems to be the only way I can figure out how to talk to you. I appreciate you looking into this and rectifying the situation. I moved in last August 2011. I will link the news articles you can find online here. Actual Police reports, I am not really sure how to obtain those. I am just a college student.

http://www.azcentral.com/business/realestate/articles/2010/01/30/20100130asu-underage-drinking-arrests-CP.html

great quote from that article: " Records obtained by The Arizona Republic show that by Christmas Eve, police had been called to the building 244 times, nearly four times the number of calls to other high-end complexes populated largely by students along Apache Boulevard."

As for any press about the deaths. They do a good job of covering everything up and protecting their image as a desirable place to live. I will work on it for you though.

Churchill, a.k.a. Hollyhurst

Dear Slazenger,

I deeply respect your concerns questioning the existence of the small, quaint little village of Hollyhurst. However, I also strongly object to your efforts regarding the deletion of the page. It is argued that "Hollyhurst" is the colloquial name the locals give to Churchill, and even though Churchill is the village's official name, the name, Hollyhurst is more commonly used. I myself am a police detective from the village so I think I know better than you do if it exists!

Kind Regards,

Detective Chief Inspector David Jackson.

"Profession" page edit, "disinterested"

Slazenger,

Thank you for your message about my edit to the "Profession" page, which changed the word "interested" to "disinterested." This was intended as a constructive edit, as it appeared to me that someone had edited the article in the last day or two to substitute the word "interested" for "disinterested." It is possible that my memory was faulty, but since it is indeed the hallmark of a profession to provide disinterested (i.e., objective, expert, and not self-interested) counsel, and since it would be a breach of professional ethics for a professional to provide interested (i.e., self-interested, subjective, or otherwise compromised) advice, I considered the change necessary.

Best,

That wasn't the question, the question was 'how did you revert the page so fast after I changed it?'

We have our ways. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 10:30, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I mean is it an automated system called 'SineBot' or do you actually have teams of people dedicated to preventing vandalism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.208.158.138 (talk) 10:31, 4 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]

SineBot is simply a bot that helps identify comments from people who don't "sign" their posts with a four-tilde identifier. There are anti-vandalism bots, but the vast majority is taken care of by individuals. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 10:33, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So, if a whole bunch of people (10,000 or more) decided to vandalise wikipedia pages at the same time then you would be almost completely overwhelmed?

You'd be surprised at our efficiency. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 10:34, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But what if only one letter was changed in the whole article; what then? Are you honestly telling me that you would be able to work out everything that had been changed?

If you add or subtract one character it would be spotted instantly. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 10:36, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Different situation: what if every article was completely changed, and I mean unrecognisable multiple times? What then? How would you be able to revert the articles? (This is all entirely hypothetical) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.208.158.138 (talk) 10:38, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm growing bored of this back and forth...so let's put it like this. IF an article is vandalized - it will be reverted quickly regardless of what is done to it or the quantity effected. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 10:40, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Final situation: all the articles have been deleted, there is a DDOS attack of 10,000 or more linked computers directed at the main server and all the copies of the original articles stored have been deleted in their entirety. What happens to Wikipedia now? (Still entirely hypothetical)

Take care. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 10:44, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So am I blocked from editing Wikipedia articles now? I only ask because I normally do it properly; hence being blocked would be an annoyance. --46.208.158.138 (talk) 10:51, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Slazenger. I added a ribbon to your user page. Hope that's okay. Best SlightSmile 23:58, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad it's helpful. Also, there's two kinds of user pages. With and without userboxes. Guess which mine is. When I started (finally) decorating my page, I went around picking userboxes that best described me from user pages. If you like userboxes (some users don't) you can likewise paste ones that suit you into a {{collapse top | Userboxes}} and {{collapse bottom}} setup until you figure how you want to place them. All the best and good to meet you. SlightSmile 01:55, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

inlineAdmedialink

Hello! Just FYI, if you see edits with "class=inlineAdmedialink" popping up, they are a result of a misbehaving javascript that some editors have running (or something similar). They don't appear to be intentional vandalism on the part of the editor. See Wikipedia:Edit_filter/Requested/Archive_5#Extraneous_formatting for a little more info. I have requested that an edit filter be put back in place to handle this. --Tgeairn (talk) 05:37, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

you undid my edit

hiya you recently undid my edit on the international free press society which is widely credited with being a front and advocacy group for anti-islam hence why I made a link to the main page of islam, so that users who come across the page may feel inclined to know what is islam and there is the link.

I respect your decision though feel the link is relevant to the topic, message me back on your decision though I respectfully ask you to reconsider. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.23.208.70 (talk) 20:34, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I misunderstood your intention. I've reverted my edit and removed the warning from your IP. Sorry! --Slazenger (Contact Me) 20:50, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Slazenger, did you see all the edits of this anonymous user? He is placing his See also: Islam-text everywhere, also in articles that already have a link to Islam. It looks like he is more more interested in having as many links to the Islam-article, instead of making the article look good. I think you did the right thing to revert the edit in the first place. I'll restore it.Jeff5102 (talk) 19:12, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Carson???

Sorry to bother you but I've find in my box (before log in) a message from you of February, 15 to 2.81.63.134, regarding some vandalization of a Ben Carson article. If you only make edits on your named account, anything related to your edits would be left on the talk page there. Regards, --Slazenger (Contact Me) 21:33, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hei, what did you do? of course this is constructive. What are you talking? She's a famous singer in Albania. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beniskej (talkcontribs) 00:26, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You removed a perfectly good article on the Swedish actress to put material on another individual with the same name. I hope you realize what might be wrong with that. If there is another individual with the same name, you should create a new article for the singer and name the article: Fortesa Hoti (singer). This will distinguish between the two. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 00:32, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ESP edit

I am new to this forum and am confused by this term 'vandalism.' I simply removed something from an article that I believed to be false. I realize the subject of ESP and clairvoyance is controversial and can see that people would have conflicting views. There is scientific evidence that is convincing to me and a large number of people, convincing enough that I would have hoped that certain words in the article were changed so that it gave an appearance of objectivity. I wonder how I would prove this and get this changed. How do I prove that the evidence for ESP is compelling when for example the Society for Psychical Research has provided evidence for over a hundred years, but pseudosceptics continue to deny that this evidence exists? Do I just provide a link on SkepticRaptors talk page that provides this evidence and hope that he changes his mind? I have read some of his articles on his website and he is not going to change his mind anytime soon. Is the ESP and clairvoyance page a democratic forum where people can get things removed, or is it just a mouthpiece for SkepticRaptor? These are just some concerns of a new member to this editing forum as I don't know much about the process. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.7.232.96 (talk) 02:55, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit tests on Ken Keeley

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I've noticed that you have been adding your signature to some of your edits to articles, such as the edit you made to Ken Keeley. This is a common mistake to make and has probably already been corrected. Please do not sign your edits to article content, as the article's edit history serves the function of attributing contributions, so you only need to use your signature to make discussions more readable, such as on article talk pages or project pages such as the Village Pump. If you would like further information about distinguishing types of pages, please see What is an article?. Again, thank you for contributing, and enjoy your Wikipedia experience! Udayar Caste

Your article on the caste Udayar is not factually correct as it is using excerpts from a book which whose truth and material content cant be validated. Especially the use of "socially humbler" and linking the caste of Udayar to Kallar and Pallar.

Please check the content from Tamil Nadu Government (http://www.tn.gov.in/bcmbcmw/bclist.htm. about vs approx

Hiya. I left this note on Talk:Boston Marathon bombings, but that's growing like topsy, so I thought I'd leave it here as well:

Slazenger, I'd be delighted to hear why you think "approximately" is a better choice than "about".PRRfan (talk) 19:02, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It was less a case of approximately vs. about and more a a case of the way you had it worded. It was "On April 15, 2013, two bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon at approximately 2:50 p.m.". You changed it to "On April 15, 2013, two bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon about 2:50 p.m.". You introduced incorrect grammar into the article, and even if it had been "at about" it would have been no more descriptive nor accurate than "at approximately". About throws a greater deal of uncertainty into a time estimation than approximately does from my understanding. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 23:51, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your concern but sadly you're mistaken on how things work - you seem to be missing the fact that you edits turned what was a perfectly accepted, well-worded article (with proper grammar), and completely changed the content and ruined all encyclopaedic value of the article. Your edit was therefore reverted to restore the previously accepted factual information in order to maintain an article that is acceptable by Wiki standards. As you put it "leave this place better than you found it" - you took a well-worded article and turned into something that was an eyesore. I removed the redirect that was done by another editor as the redirect of the article was redirected to Ninetology. This to me was not necessary because the article's main point(Ninetology U9Z1+ & Ninetology U9Z1) was to talk about a product from Ninetology and not Ninetology itself as a brand. Hope this clears any confusion.

Please do drop me a msg if you like further clarification on this matter.

Cheers!

Appreciate the explanation. Warning revoked. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 07:35, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This is Subrata Majumdar, Assistant Manager, Content Development, TutorVista, Pearson Education Service. The edits that i tried in our page is not vandalism and all i wanted is relevant materials of our page without actually making it look like advertisement as you have emphasized. Please allow me to put things straight so that our Company's history and their founder members details are there for everyone to see. If you want i could send you the soft copy of what i am planning to add in our page and you can verify all the details and let me know the changes you want in the page.
