Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Jagwar twin → Jagwar

 Bureaucrat note: Are you Jagwar at mg.wiki? bibliomaniac15 18:10, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Urbanknowhow → Karlstar

 Bureaucrat note: You don't particularly take Wikipedia seriously: [1], [2], [3]. Kingturtle (talk) 05:49, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done No other bureaucrat has chimed in on this issue. Requests are granted only to those in good standing, and I don't believe Urbanknowhow takes Wikipedia seriously enough to have this request granted. Kingturtle (talk) 12:44, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jacqueline Mansueto → Jacqueline Wallace Mansueto

Bureaucrat note: please log in as User:Jacqueline Mansueto and verify here that it is indeed User:Jacqueline Mansueto making the request. Kingturtle (talk) 17:18, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → NEW

  • Please fill out this template correctly, replacing CURRENT with your current username.
  • Please fill out this template correctly, replacing NEW with your requested username.

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and renaming appears to be possible. SoxBot VI (talk) 19:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Saramoussawi → SaraM

Sarah Nim → NEW

  • Please fill out this template correctly, replacing CURRENT with your current username.
  • Please fill out this template correctly, replacing NEW with your requested username.
  • Previous renames: current user, target user, Queue: open req, closed req
  • For global renamer: rename user
  • Reason: Reason for requested renaming. Sarah Nim (talk) 20:57, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To start an article about a celebrity named Sarey Savy

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and renaming appears to be possible. SoxBot VI (talk) 21:00, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: What username would you like? I'm not sure why you'd need to change your username to create an article about someone. As far as I can see the deletion of the article Sarey Savy has nothing to do with your username. Matt (Talk) 04:08, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Username:Sarah Nim is an appropriate username for creating Sarey Savy. No need to change. Kingturtle (talk) 12:46, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oral Thrush → Uvula

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. Matt (Talk) 04:15, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done User made a 2nd request below. Kingturtle (talk) 15:11, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oral Thrush → Uvula!

Clerk note: moved near duplicate request from bottom of list to be attached here. Also, the name is close enough to an existing name that this might be rejected. If it is, is there another name you might be interested in?---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 06:48, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done User appears to have created Uvula! on her/his own. Kingturtle (talk) 15:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Andre, did the change below, moved third request to be with first two.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 15:28, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Done 12 January 2009 by Andrevan. Kingturtle (talk) 12:49, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simonljackson → Simon_L_Jackson

Clerk note: Simon L Jackson is taken. It's only edit was to request a rename from Simonljackson → Simon L Jackson, are you sure that account isn't you? If you'd still like to be renamed, is there another username you'd like? Matt (Talk) 04:21, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

12321v → WikipediaEditor_09111

Clerk note: The username Wikipediaeditor_09111 might be considered an inappropriate username under the username policy as it could imply authority. Is there another username you'd like?---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 08:05, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How can that name imply authority? "WikipediaEditor" implies that the user is an editor of Wikipedia, which sounds pretty accurate to me. --Conti| 16:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: As a side note, User:Editorofthewiki was deemed as not implying authority. Useight (talk) 16:49, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • So is this name change possible? 12321v (talk) 17:26, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • A bureaucrat will make the final call. As clerks, we only provide useful information for both the requestor and the bureaucrat. Useight (talk) 17:43, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • We just had a near identical request 2 days ago. That request was to user:Wikipedia-Editor. The reason why it could be seen as problematic is because editors are often deemed to be authority figures in the publishing field. I'm not going to say it is/isn't appropriate, but that recent precident might imply it is at least questionable.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 01:06, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The request for user:WikipediaEditor was made by me but it was rejected as that username was already registered by another user. If that username doesn't exist, could I request for my username to be changed to user:WikipediaEditor instead of user:WikipediaEditor_09111? Also, how long will it take for a bureaucrat to make this change? 12321v (talk) 01:11, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • IMO if we are going to rule that Wikipedia-Editor/WikipediaEditor, or an variation thereof is acceptable, then we really should go back to the person who made the request earlier this week an offer it to them, as they have IMO the superior claim to the name.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 02:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC) NOTE: The user who had requested Wikipedia-Editor, just had his name changed to user:Visium on Friday.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 06:04, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done It is ill-advised to have the word Wikipedia used in this way. It can be misconstrued. The example used of Editorofthewiki does not say Wikipedia specifically. I would however accept WikiEditor_09111. Kingturtle (talk) 15:26, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • So I can't have "WikipediaEditor_09111"? If not, then okay, I'm willing to accept WikiEditor_09111 in its place. Can this change be done now? 12321v (talk) 09:48, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Done --Dweller (talk) 09:57, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kyng386 → Kyng

Kyng's primary wiki is the etwiki, are you the same user that uses that wiki? If so, please log onto that account and confirm the request for us.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 06:44, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am Kyng from etwiki. And how do I confirm the request? --Kyng386 (talk) 13:10, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Log in there and leave a message on your usertalk saying you agree with this change. Then post the diff here. --Dweller (talk) 13:44, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done [4] --Kyng386 (talk) 14:42, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done The name Kyng (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has no edits, it can be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 15:29, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → ballbat123

forgot my user name change to ballbat123

Not done please make the request when logged in. Kingturtle (talk) 12:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Expartners → Porsche007

Clerk note: User "Porsche007" is not registered. Please see WP:CHU instead. ClueBot VI (talk) 14:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: I moved this request from WP:USURP, original request here. Useight (talk) 18:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done Porsche007 is freely available and Expartners has no edits other than the request here. Just discard the old account and create the new. --Dweller (talk) 10:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Andikatjacobdennis → Andikat Jacob Dennis

Clerk note: User "Andikat Jacob Dennis" is not registered. Please see WP:CHU instead. ClueBot VI (talk) 20:22, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: I moved this request from WP:USURP, original post here. Useight (talk) 18:58, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done User:Andikat Jacob Dennis already exists, and is in use. Kingturtle (talk) 15:33, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oxxxo → Oxxo

Jeff engelman → Jeff Engelman

Not done - but done here. Kingturtle (talk) 16:52, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thejeffbot → Rileylank

Amineone → Swords and fighting council

Clerk note: I did a minor fix of this request to standardize it. Original post can be found here. Useight (talk) 02:02, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Bureaucrat note: Is there such a thing as the "Swords and fighting council"? --Dweller (talk) 11:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Bureaucrat note: I could not find any such organization on the web. However, even if it is not an actual organization, I am reluctant to make the change because the word Council implies that there would be more than one person using the account. Kingturtle (talk) 12:54, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done I had the same reservations last night, but I was heading off to bed so I didn't bother saying anything. That's three 'crats with concerns, so I'm marking this as Not Done. Amineone, feel free to request a different username. EVula // talk // // 16:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Emily Wood → Keysha

Not done The name Keysha (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has no edits, it can be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 12:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jw6573 → Marian_Wilhide

Clerk note: Are you aware of the potential privacy-related ramifications that can come from using your real name? Useight (talk) 04:15, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
