Hello. I've been horribly addicted to this for the last few days, clocking up more than ten hours each time. So, no doubt I'll be in need of some kind of medical attention soon enough.

I'm interested in comedy, so I've been making lots of submissions along those lines. I've already started logging the more substantial contributions at my page.

I'm a trained feature journalist but, due to health problems, I'm concentrating on developing a comedy script/sketch writing career. I've been submitting gags to the BBC and I am gradually building up contacts and weaving a supportive web.

Next week I'll be entering this competition, at which point my genius will be recognised, gorgeous maiden will swoon at my knees and I'll live happily ever after in a mansion made entirely out of caviar - an article, damn it, that I have now just had to edit having seen it.

This is insane. It's 3.30am here in London, where I live... --bodnotbod 02:26, May 2, 2004 (UTC)

Hyphenator

What a pleasant surprise to find a site like this that *welcomes* newcomers instead of hazing them.

My professional background is in writing, editing and administration for non-profit organizations. I currently do editing and desktop publishing for my church newsletter. I am also an avid musician, now studying the trumpet.

I live in Pasadena, Calif., with my wife and 12-year-old son.

Once I get acclimated, I will share an idea for expanding the effective workforce of open-source enterprises. It turns on the fact that zillions of people (like me) on a fixed disability income are looking for practical ways to contribute to a cause outside themselves. People with the right skills might even be valuable enough to earn a little extra money (not too much) to help cover medications and doctor bills.

Hyphenator 04:11, 3 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have profound health problems. Whether they count as a disability is something I'm trying to establish. For the moment, as far as the British welfare state is concerned, they do not. But I agree with you: the internet gives those with a disability or chronic health problem a new range of opportunities.
I'll tell you something a little strange: Every day I have an SMS sent to my mobile phone with a horoscope. I don't believe in them but it's free. Last night's message - which I read just ten minutes ago - was "You are a small person in a big world - search for a cause outside yourself", and then I come here and see your second sentence. Rather spooky ;o) --bodnotbod 14:48, May 3, 2004 (UTC)

Hello, I'm from Canada. My areas of speciality are mostly in the computer field. My particular passion is technical aspects of the X86 processor family (Intel, AMD, etc.). I am currently engaged in trying to clean up the overlap between the various articles devoted to this microprocessor family. For example, currently there is a lot of overlap between the articles in X86 and IA-32. What I will attempt to do is remove some of this overlap and have one article link to the other article.

Hi. I'm from New Zealand, and my interests are historical economics, demography, and politics, particularly the medieval period (worldwide). I made one small change when not logged and thought - why not join up? I have my own web site devoted to this stuff Tower Hills

Caliper

Hi. I'm from Toronto but I'm at a university in Pittsburgh right now. My main interests are in Canadian culture, which is what brought me here, but I am also very into current events, especially the various conflicts in the Middle East.

I also claim to be good at proofreading and editing, but whether that's true remains to be seen.

I'm somewhat new to the Wikipedia community. I'm a 3rd graduate student in the Neuroscience PhD program at Emory University in Atlanta. In layman's terms, I study how the brain changes with fear learning. Before registering I created articles for Rhodes College, Agnes Scott College, Decatur Ga, and Southern American English.

Wikipedia has got to be one of the coolest ideas ever. As an Open Source software developer at Middlebury College by day and a student of life (and the rest of the world) by night, Wikipedia fits right in with my goals of open knowlege for all. So far I have been adding little bits on local topics but plan to add more as I see holes that I can fill. I have a degree in physics and have studied world history and lots of other stuff during my liberal arts education. Maybe that can be put to some good use here. I'm fairly new to the Wikipedia community, though I've been using the site as a reference for a good six months now. I'm 25, and I'm a student of urban planning at UQAM. I've always lived in the greater Montreal area, in Quebec, Canada. Some of my interests include literature, computers, classical music and history. I can't wait to get started on a few articles. Tregoweth

Hi, everyone. I've just been dipping my toes in so far, and feeling myself get addicted. I'm also a semi-lapsed E2er, which will probably be obvious in my occasional errors in bracketing...

Hi! im 18, play rock guitar, and am interested in ancient egyptology, luthiery, quantum physics and cosmology, and basically learning about the world! Hurrah!

Viruzzo

Hi, I'm an italian with interest in many things, but mostly nerd classics: computer (from programming to videogames), manga & comics & anime, sci-fi, fantasy, cinema and the like. I'm also an avid reader, in particular of J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Brooks and George R.R. Martin) and of old sci-fi (I have read a real LOT of Jack Vance and Philip K. Dick). I am almost alway listening to music, all genres but specifically I'm a fan of Garbage.

Ciao Viruzzo

It sounds like we have similar interests! I'm a professional singer and my partner is Italian, so I have intesified my studies of the Italian language (finding it harder than I would've expected!). I'm also a big fan of SciFi and Fantasy - especially Ursula LeGuin, Robin Hobb/Megan Lindholm, and lots of others. I'm not sure if I like Garbage but they are from my home town (Madison, Wisconsin, USA)! divadiane 08:12, 14 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikipedians! I have been watching this site for a while and finally decided to help edit/create new pages. I am an American living in Florida. I enjoy reading and playing guitar. Any comments or constructive criticisms can be posted at my talk page. My ultimate goal at Wikipedia, like many of you, is to become an administrator and eventually rule over the WikiWorld. (Not really!) Though I do hope to one day become a site administrator. --Beelzebubs 23:23, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Divadiane

I'm Diane and hail originally from Madison, Wisconsin. I currently reside in Frankfurt, Germany where I've lived for the past 12 years. I found Wikipedia through a recommendation from someone on the Feminist SciFi Fantasy Utopian Literature Listserv. I'm an avid reader, especially of Speculative Fiction and Literary Fiction. I'm a profession singer, my specialization being Early Music (Baroque and Medieval music mostly, but also Renaissance) and contemporary music. I've already done the tutorial, but I think I'll have to spend some more time with it before I really know all the ins and outs. I'm interested in honing some writing and research skills, hoping that this will help.divadiane 08:20, 14 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

tslack2000

My name is Tyler Slack and I'm looking forward to being a contributor to Wikipedia. I'll most likely start out slow by editing some broken links and adding to a stub or two. I'm sure before long I'll be creating pages and weighing in on the controversial stuff on the Talk pages. What intrigues me about this project is the unbelievable depth of it! A link to just about anything with links from there and links from there and it just continues! The knowledge to be gained is unfathomable. I'm sure I'll learn a lot as I do my best to contribute.

I learned about wicki from my brother several years ago. When I stumbled upon Wikipedia during a google search I was already familiar with the markup due to said introduction. I can already tell this is going to be a bad addiction as several others have stated. Everyone has to have at least one bad habit to kick!

Callidus

My name is Austin Hair, and I've recently decided to have a go at contributing to the Wikipedia after years of grateful use. Thus far I've made significant contributions to YAML, Geo, and most recently Fiji coups of 1987. I hope to at least maintain a somewhat respectable quality of work, so by all means, call me on it if I don't.

Jao

I wonder if it's okay for someone who's been around for almost four months to list here.. Otherwise I'll have a complex for never having done so. (I never knew about the page until now.) =)

I first came here from Google, looking for the answer to why Lady Louise Windsor is styled that way. I got instantly hooked. For a few weeks, maybe, I was a reader. But who, in the long run, can keep their hands away from editing?

If you want, you can read more about this Swedish Wikipedian on the user page:

I read about Wikipedia in an article (Newsweek I think) and decided to check it out. I took the advice to "be bold" to heart and jumped right in doing some work on the Buffy pages since I am a big fan of the show. Then, I headed over to the "most wanted articles" page and started in. I have been selecting subjects that I can research on the Web and that interest me. So far, I have done some biographies and a couple of geography articles. I don't really have a specialty, but I promise to stay away from math and science which are my weak areas. Dyoung 03:04, 16 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I love information, Wikipedia and Rudi Bakhtiar. Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad :) My interests are sports-oriented, especially baseball, basketball, and football, so I'll contribute mightily to those areas. I also live in the southern suburbs of Chicago, and have a plethora of knowledge about the towns contained therein. I'll be adding a bit to those pages as well.

I think this is an awesome site, and hopefully I'll add something to it in my own little way :)

Greetings Wikipedians. I hail from the island of Britain and I have been using Wikipedia for quite some time now, usually when I am bored and fancy learning something new and different, and Wikipedia is excellent for this. My intrests are quite numerable and I like to think I know a few bits and bobs from a wide variety of subjects. I am a Pyschology student and I have studied history, classic's and archaeology in the past.

I have already made a few minor edits here and there, and I am looking foward to adding more to this brilliant project.

Branson

Hi, all! I'm Branson. I've been signed up with Wikipedia for a while, but am just starting to do some edits and topic creation. I'm a senior in high school, so every time that I see a topic that we are supposed to research that isn't in the 'pedia, I'm creating and adding my research from external sources to it. I would appreciate criticism on my articles, and would also appreciate a helping hand--I'm not sure how I'm doing with my edits.

Thanks!
