The 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament is an international men's basketball tournament in which three teams will qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. It will be held on 4–10 July 2016 in Italy, the Philippines and Serbia.[1]
The format will consist of 18 national teams divided into three tournaments of six teams each, with the winning team from each event qualifying for the Olympics.
Hosts selection
On 12 November 2015, the day after bidding deadline, FIBA announced six candidates to co-host the 3 men's qualification tournaments:[2]
|
An evaluation of all bids took place,[2] and Italy, the Philippines, and Serbia were announced as hosts of the three Olympic qualifiers on 19 January 2016.[9]

The first part determined in which of the three qualifying tournaments would each team participate, except for the host countries. The second part determined the grouping of each team (Group A or Group B) and the third part determined their position from 1 to 3, which would be used to determine the fixtures.[11]
The teams' FIBA World Rankings on the day of the draw are shown in brackets.[12]

Notes
- ^ If the tournament is hosted by a team that has already qualified, the next-best team from the host country's federation will also qualify.[10]
- ^ a b Lebanon qualified as fifth placers at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship with the Philippines named as one of the hosts of the Olympic qualifying tournaments. However, FIBA stated that Lebanon is not "in good standing" or behind in payments with FIBA Asia and the FIBA Executive decided to invite Turkey as replacement taking its FIBA World Ranking and final standings at the 2015 EuroBasket in consideration.[8][9]
- ^ a b The venue of the qualifying tournament, the Mall of Asia Arena is in Pasay which is part of Metro Manila.[6] For marketing purposes the host city of the Philippine qualifiers is designated as "Manila"
