The 1957 County Championship was the 58th officially organised running of the County Championship.[1] Surrey won the Championship title for the sixth successive year.

Changes were applied to the points system for the Championship as follows [2] -

  • The team leading on first innings in a match drawn or lost is awarded 2 points
  • The team leading on first innings in a match drawn or lost is awarded 2 points if scoring faster runs per over than opponents
  • The team winning a match is awarded 2 points if scoring faster than its opponents in the first innings
  • The one day rule now applied to matches restricted to the last third of the total playing time.
