The 1976–77 season was Paris Saint-Germain Football Club's 7th season in existence and 4th season in Division 1, the top tier of French football. The club also competed in the Coupe de France.[1] PSG played its home matches at Parc des Princes in Paris, but once at Stade de Paris in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine as well, registering an average attendance of 22,410 spectators per match.[1][2] The club was presided by Daniel Hechter, and the team was first managed by Velibor Vasović, who replaced Just Fontaine before the start of the season.[1][3] A former Serbian player, Vasović became PSG's first foreign manager in their history.[4] He was in charge until May 1977, when Pierre Alonzo was appointed as new manager.[1][3] Algerian midfielder Mustapha Dahleb was the team captain, replacing Humberto Coelho.[5]

The Parisians lost on penalties to Ferencváros in the semi-finals, but finished in the podium after defeating Vasco da Gama in the third place play-off match.[11][13]
