Colma is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station located in unincorporated northern San Mateo County, California adjacent to the incorporated town of Colma and city of Daly City. Opened on February 24, 1996, Colma was the southernmost extent of the BART system on the San Francisco Peninsula until the extension to San Francisco International Airport and Millbrae opened in 2003.

Colma station is situated in a small valley shared with BART's Daly City Yard and a large parking garage. The station has three tracks, with an island platform between the two eastern tracks and a side platform next to the western track. Only the two eastern tracks are used for revenue service.

History

The former Colma station on display

School House station (later renamed Colma) was established on the San Francisco and San Jose Railroad shortly after it began service in 1863. The station was originally on the south side of San Pedro Avenue west of the tracks; it was moved to the north side of Washington Street in the 1870s. A freight platform was built on the east side of the tracks between the two roads around that time, and a freight shed was built on top in 1904 or 1905. When passenger service ended on the line in the early 1920s, the passenger station was moved next to the freight station.

In 1986, the structures were moved south across San Pedro Road during construction of Daly City Yard. They were moved again in 1993, then to a permanent home at the Colma Historical Society in 2003.

A busway on the east side of the station serves SamTrans bus lines ECR, 38, 112, 118, 120, 121, 122, and 130.
