Devoleena Bhattacharjee (born 22 August 1985) is an Indian television actress and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer known for portraying Gopi Modi in the Star Plus drama series Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.[3] In 2019, she participated in Bigg Boss 13 as a contestant.[4]

Personal life

Devoleena Anima Bhattacharjee was born on 22 August 1985 to a Bengali family in Upper Assam.[5][6][1] She lives in Gurugram with her mother and her younger brother.[7]

She did her schooling from Godhula Brown Memorial English High School in Sivasagar, Assam and her higher studies from the National Institute of Fashion and Technology in New Delhi, India.[8]

Career

Initially Bhattacharjee worked as a jewellery designer in Gili India Ltd. in Mumbai.She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and an actress. She was first noticed when she auditioned for the dance reality series Dance India Dance 2.[9] Her acting debut was in NDTV Imagine's Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto as Bani.[10]

In June 2012, Bhattacharjee was cast as Gopi Modi, a lead character in the Star Plus drama Saath Nibhaana Saathiya after Giaa Manek, who previously played the role, was ousted from the series.[11] In 2014 and again in 2016, she contemplated quitting the show due to the frequent time leaps,[12][13] but she continued to be a part of the show and in June 2017, Devoleena completed five years.[14] In the same month, she underwent spinal surgery for an injury that took place on the show's set in 2013.[15] The series ended on 23 July 2017 after doing well for seven years.[16][17]

In 2019, Devoleena joined as a celebrity contestant in thirteenth season of the reality TV show Bigg Boss.[18] The first promo featuring her was released on 20 September 2019. The show premiered on 29 September. In November 2019, she exited the show owing medical issues.[19]
