Roberto Font (born June 25, 1987) is an American professional mixed martial artist, who competes in the Bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. A professional competitor since 2008, he formerly competed for CES MMA, where he was the Featherweight Champion. As of July 14, 2020, he is #10 in the UFC bantamweight rankings.[4]
Mixed martial arts career
A native of Central Massachusetts, Font began training as an amateur in 2009 and compiled a record of 3-1 before making his professional debut in December 2011.[5]
He compiled a record of 10-1 as a professional, competing for several regional promotions across his native New England before signing with the UFC in the spring of 2014.[5][6]
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Font made his promotional debut against George Roop on July 5, 2014 at UFC 175.[7] He won the fight via knockout in the first round.[8] He also earned a Performance of the Night bonus.[9]
For his next bout, Font was expected to face Chris Beal on September 5, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 50.[10] However, Font pulled out of the bout citing an injury.[11]
Font was expected to face Mitch Gagnon on October 4, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 54.[12] Subsequently, Font pulled out of the fight the week of the event and was replaced by Roman Salazar.[13]
Font was expected to face Chris Williams on January 17, 2016 at UFC Fight Night 81.[14] Subsequently, Williams was forced out of the fight due to injury and replaced by Joey Gomez.[15] He won the fight by TKO in the second round.[16]
Font next faced John Lineker on May 14, 2016 at UFC 198.[17] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[18]
Font was expected to face Ian Entwistle on October 8, 2016 at UFC 204.[19] However on the day prior to the event, Entwistle fell ill during the weight cutting process and the bout was scrapped.[20]
Font was expected to face Alejandro Pérez on December 3, 2016 at The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale.[21] However, Perez pulled out of the fight on November 24. [22] He was replaced by promotional newcomer Matt Schnell.[23] He won the fight via TKO in the first round.[24]
Font faced Douglas Silva de Andrade on July 8, 2017 at UFC 213.[25] He won the fight by submission in the second round.[26] He earned the Performance of the Night award for the win.[27]
Font faced Pedro Munhoz on October 28, 2017 at UFC Fight Night 119.[28] He lost the fight via submission in round one.[29]
Font faced Thomas Almeida on January 20, 2018 at UFC 220.[30] He won the fight via TKO in the second round.[31]
Font faced Raphael Assunção on July 7, 2018 at UFC 226.[32] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[33]
Font faced Sergio Pettis on December 15, 2018 at UFC on Fox 31.[34] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[35]
Font was expected to face Cody Stamann on June 22, 2019 at UFC on ESPN+ 12.[36] However, on June 5, 2019 it was reported that Stamman pulled out of the event due to injury and he was replaced by John Lineker.[37] In turn Lineker was pulled from the bout for an undisclosed reason. Font, in turn, would be removed from the card.[38]
Font faced Ricky Simon at UFC on ESPN 7 on December 7, 2019.[39] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[40] This fight earned him the Fight of the Night award. [41]
