The Women's Party (Korean: 여성의당) is a single-issue political party in South Korea that advocates for radical feminism.[4] The party calls for an end to politics that is centered around men and wants to increase the number of women in the National Assembly and South Korean politics in general.[5]

History

Establishment

The Women's Party was officially established on March 8, 2020 on International Women's Day; a little over one month after the establishment of the Women's Forum.[6]

2020 South Korean legislative election

The party nominated four candidates for proportional representation and all candidates were women. However, the party only ended up 0.74% of the vote and none of its candidates were elected into the National Assembly.[7]

Political position

Unlike mainstream feminist political parties that range from center-left to left-wing political positions, the Women's Party is big tent with members ranging from conservatives to progressives.[8] The party has also been supportive of TERF, believing that the existence of transgender women is insulting women.[9]
