Roger Federer was the two-time defending champion, but withdrew due to a knee injury.

Stan Wawrinka won the title, defeating Marcos Baghdatis in the final, 6–4, 7–6(15–13).

This marked the first tournament Novak Djokovic participated in where he failed to reach the final since the 2015 Qatar ExxonMobil, snapping a streak of 17 consecutive tournament finals, when he was forced to retire from his quarterfinal match against Feliciano López due to an eye injury.
