Fictional character biography
[edit]Aracely was originally from Mexico before being kidnapped by the Lobo Cartel and brought to Houston, Texas, being rendered amnesiac in the process. After being rescued by Kaine, she is placed in the care of Dr. Donald Meland and police officer Wally Layton.[2]
Later, Aracely is attacked by the Salamander, a flame-manipulating assassin, before Kaine stops him. Afterward, he brings her to live with him in the Four Seasons Hotel.[3]
Shortly afterward, Aracely suffers from recurring dreams filled with mythological imagery. She meets a coyote who tells her that the Fifth Era of the world is ending and that she is the Left-Handed Hummingbird who will be killed during the apocalypse.[4]
As Aracely and Kaine take a walk through the park to discuss her dreams, they are attacked by the Lobo brothers. In the process, Aracely remembers that the Lobo Cartel brought her to Houston at the behest of a mysterious old man named Moctezuma. After Kaine transforms into a spider monster to help her, Aracely calms him and proclaims him as her "champion".[5]
Afterwards, Aracely joins the New Warriors as Hummingbird. However, she inadvertently loses control of her powers after Rachel Grey scans her mind until Iceman slows her brain activity with his freezing powers. Additionally, Beast and Cecilia Reyes conduct tests on her and discover that she is not a mutant.[6] Unbeknownst to Hummingbird, the High Evolutionary has been observing her and determines that she may be a demigod.[7]
Powers and abilities
[edit]Hummingbird possesses mental abilities that enable her to telepathically communicate with others, sense their emotions, and quickly learn languages.[2][8] She possesses a special connection with Kaine that is lessened in his spider form.[5][9][10] She can additionally levitate and generate sacred fire.[5][8][9][11][12][1][13]
