Are weddings inherently religious?

[edit]

I just recategorised this category, from Category:Marriage and religion to Category:Marriage. The reason was that I tried to find a category about weddings from the marriage category, and failed.

I did look at the list of subcategories to Category:Marriage; however, I never had any idea that I ought to search via the subcategory Category:Marriage and religion. This might have a little to do with the country I live in. In Sweden, secular weddings are not that uncommon; and I simply didn't associate "wedding" with "rithual achieving a religious confirmation of the marrying". (Also, historically, when marriages were private contracts between the spouses or between their families, there was not always any religious part of the wedding.) Thus, I suspect that making this to a subcategory of Category:Marriage and religion might be rather adequate for e.g. present-day USA, but not so for all the world, and nor in discussing historical situations.
