Otegbayo Joseph Oluwatimileyin (born 5 February 1992) popularly known by his stage name Timi Phoenix, is a Nigerian afro gospel artiste, songwriter, author, entrepreneur and certified quantity surveyor. He holds a Guinness World Record for the longest recording marathon [1] and is a member of the LoveWorld Music and Arts Ministry alongside other Nigerian gospel musicians including Frank Edwards, Sinach, Moses Bliss, Ada Ehi (gospel musician), Eben and Joe Praize.

Early life

Otegbayo Joseph Oluwatimileyin was born on 5 February 1992 in Minna, Niger State. He is the third of five children and grew up in a Christian home with his father, Elder Otegbayo Olufemi Adediran, and his mother Dr. Otegbayo Christy Olubunmi, as evangelists at the St. Stephen Anglican Church, Maikunkele, Minna, Niger state. They hail from Atakunmosa East, Osun State, Southwestern Nigeria.

Timi began his primary education in 1993 at Neco Staff School, Minna, Niger State, before proceeding to Federal Government School, Kwali, Abuja for his secondary school education in 2002. In 2013, he graduated from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger state with an Ordinary National Diploma in Quantity Surveying. He moved to Lagos to further his tertiary education.

In Lagos, he was admitted into Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, where he graduated with a Higher National Diploma in Quantity Surveying in 2016. He was then employed as a quantity surveyor at Play in Architecture, Lagos state.

Musical career

Timi Phoenix is a music minister that is known for his contemporary sounds targeted at reaching out to the audience outside the church. [2]. His debut album, Magnified, was released in 2014, this 9-track collection included the notable singles, Eledumare and Nagode. Three years later, he released his second album, Triumph in 2017, accompanied with music videos for the hit singles Bugatti and Shout Halle. In 2020, he released his third studio project, Luminary, which included the single Perfecto, featuring Testimony Jaga [3], and in 2022, he released his fourth album, God’s Plan.

In addition to the four albums, Timi Phoenix has released about 40 singles and performed in shows across the country, including three consecutive performances at Derizo Concerts in 2017, 2018 and 2019, he also performed at LIMA Awards 2018. In 2023, he headlined the Xpression with CDO nationwide campus tour, performing with Mike Abdul, Protek Illasheva, Moses Bliss and others [4] [5], he was the opening act at Sinach Live in Concert 2023. On 16 July 2023, he hosted the Afro Gospel Crusaders live concert in Lagos, Nigeria which featured contemporary gospel artistes like Okey Sokay, Protek Illasheva, Testimony Jaga, TB 1, Oba Reengy, Shola Sparks, Quiz Tha Great, among others [6].

Christian life

Timi Phoenix is a member of Christ Embassy Church in Lagos, Nigeria. He has acknowledged that his music is greatly influenced by the teachings of the church's founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.[7]

Timi Phoenix provided an insight into his journey in the music ministry through his book Tales Untold, published in May 2020 [8].

Guinness World Record

In June 2023, Timi Phoenix was among 30 artistes that set a new Guinness World Record for the longest recording marathon at 40 hours 19 minutes. The feat was achieved at the Sambol Production Studio in Lagos, Nigeria.[9]
