Golmaal 3 (translation: Hotchpotch 3) is a 2010 Indian Hindi action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty and the sequel to the 2008 film Golmaal Returns and the third film in the Golmaal series.[4] The film stars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Shreyas Talpade, Kareena Kapoor, Johnny Lever, Ratna Pathak Shah and Mithun Chakraborty in the lead roles while Mukesh Tiwari, Ashwini Kalsekar, Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee, Murali Sharma, Vijay Patkar are featured in supporting roles, Prem Chopra and Viju Khote make special appearances.
Principal photography for the film began in March 2010 in Mumbai, Goa and Hyderabad.[5] It is copy of Basu Chatterjee's Khatta Meetha (1978), which itself was based on the 1968 movie Yours, Mine and Ours, but was not a copy and Khatta Meetha had Ashok Kumar and Pearl Padamsee in lead roles and played an old couple marrying with children from their previous marriages, and film's rights were later bought over.[6][7]
Golmaal 3 was released on 5 November 2010. In 2014, a Telugu feature film Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummada, was made as a remake of Golmaal 3 with top actors like Mohan Babu, Manchu Vishnu, Manchu Manoj, Varun Sandesh, Raveena Tandon.[8]
Plot
The story follows Pritam (Mithun Chakraborty), an elderly bus driver. His three good-for-nothing sons, Madhav (Arshad Warsi) the group leader; Laxman (Kunal Khemu) the poetic idiot; and Lucky (Tushar Kapoor) the innocent mute are always up to trouble, mostly by scamming people. On the other hand, Geeta (Ratna Pathak) is an elderly woman, whose two sons, Laxman (Shreyas Talpade) the stammerer; and Gopal (Ajay Devgn) the strong but kind leader; own a water sports stall at the beach. Gopal & Laxman's partner Daboo (Kareena Kapoor) on whom Gopal has a crush, but never shows it.
Three robbers Puppy (Johny Lever), Dagga (Sanjai Mishra) and Teja (Vrajesh Hirjee) rob the queen's necklace and are on the run from police and end up in Goa. Puppy, the don, who suffers from short-term memory, hides the necklace in Pritam's house. Soon enough, Pritam's sons open a water sports shack opposite Geeta's sons' stall, and a rivalry begins. Filled with mayhem, both the groups try to take down each other's business but fail hilariously. In response to this, Pritam goes to meet Geeta, (although he doesn't know that they are Geeta's sons) to sort this rivalry out and it turns out that Pritam & Geeta were college-lovers. Daboo overhears their love story, and decides to get the two married, without their sons' permissions.
After the marriage, the two families start living in one house, filled with non-stop laughs & mayhem. It is also revealed to the five sons that they are not Pritam & Geeta's sons but orphans after overheard by Lucky. Although they vow not to tell them that they know that they are orphans and to hide that, they become friendly like brothers. They also open a big shop of toys aided by Vasooli Bhai (who is another not-so-don don) and Puppy for money. Puppy eventually remembers where he hid the necklace, and turns himself in along with his goons Dagga and Teja. After the long squabble, chase and mayhem, Gopal and Daboo managed to trick Puppy to take out information of hidden necklace and thus Pritam finds it and gets Puppy and his goons arrested. This film ends with Pritam and Geeta going out for honeymoon and Gopal, Madhav, Lucky and the two Laxmans end up brawling after an argument.

Reception
Critical reception
On the review-aggregation website Mirchiplex.com, the film scored 2/5 based on 12 reviews.[9] Mayank Shekhar of Hindustan Times rated it 1.5/5 and noted that "the filmmakers have six main actors to juggle with, and as many side comedians to lend parts to. Never mind the narrative, they would be happy with as any corny antics and dialogues with whoever was available."[10] Raja Sen of Rediff.com gave a similar rating explaining that "[he] was not looking for sensitivity or smarts in Golmaal 3 [but for]...a few good jokes. [However], the film does not oblige."[11] On the other hand, critic Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated it 4/5, concluding that "Golmaal 3 is an ideal fun ride with thrice the enjoyment and gratification, thrice the magic and thrice the hilarity."[12] The Times of India explained that "[although] the comic acts get repetitive...there is a laugh riot waiting for you at the multiplex this weekend."[13] Vinayak Chakravorty of Mail Today gave it 3 stars out of 5.
The Indian Stammering Association (TISA) Criticism
The Indian Stammering Association, based in Dehradun, started an online petition to the censor board against the comical depiction of stuttering, severely disabling disorder that affects millions of children and many adults.[14]
In October 2010 TISA filed a public interest writ petition against the director and producers of the film Golmaal 3 and the censor board of India at Uttarakhand High Court. It objected to the film's portrayal of stammerers as objects of ridicule, on the grounds that this promoted discrimination and the teasing and bullying of people who stammer. The film-makers and Censor Board have to respond to the court notice by 14 December 2010. After that the court will hear this case.[15][16]
Box office
Golmaal 3 released in India and internationally on 5 November 2010 to coincide with the Diwali weekend, usually considered a profitable time of the year.[2] The film's opening collections on the first day reached ₹ 83 million[17] and opening weekend net collections stood at ₹ 335 million.[18] Opening week gross collections were around ₹ 622.5 million in India and ₹ 100 million overseas.[19]
The film had a strong second weekend in theatres, grossing ₹ 190 million.[20] During its second and third week at the Indian box office, the film grossed ₹ 317.5 million[21] and ₹ 90 million respectively, therefore increasing the film's total to ₹ 1075.6 million.[22] Meanwhile, the film earned $1,132,192 in United States and Canada, £638,496 in UK and $352,063 in Australia.[23] Golmaal 3 became the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010.[24]
