Graham-Kapowsin High School is a high school in the Bethel School District, Pierce County, Washington, United States. Its doors first opened to grade 10 and 11 students in September 2005. GK added grade 12 students beginning Fall 2006. [2] Grade 9 joined in the 2012-2013 school year.

Demographics

The demographic breakdown of the 1,833 students enrolled in 2013-14 was:

  • Female - 48.3%
  • Native American/Alaskan - 1.9%
  • Asian/Pacific islanders - 7.5%
  • Black - 6.7%
  • Hispanic - 11.3%
  • White - 68.6%
  • Multiracial - 4.0%

37.4% of the students were eligible for free or reduced lunch.[1]

Academics

Languages taught at this school include Spanish, French, German, and Japanese. A few AP classes here are:[3]

Athletics

The GK Eagles are members of the South Division of the South Puget Sound League in Washington's West Central District.

Music

The band program's Wind Ensemble has been invited to play at many festivals across the country. Currently, their jazz band ranks sixteenth in the nation. The choir program was invited to perform at New York's Carnegie Hall in 2007. The 2007-2008 Choir (Chorale) was also invited, and recognized as the Keynote Address at the WMEA (Washington Music Educators Association) Conference. They have performed at the Puyallup Fair, and have also participated, and placed in the BINW (Best In the North-West) competition held annually in Portland, Oregon.

JROTC

The JROTC program at GKHS began in 2005.
