Jon Johnson, MPSE (born October 16, 1954) is an American sound editor for both feature film and television. He won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing for his work on the World War II submarine epic U-571.

Career

Johnson has been a leading figure in sound editing for many years. His career began with work as a sound effects editor on animated programs such as The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show and SuperFriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show, among others. His foray into feature film came with the 1984 horror film documentary Terror in the Aisles. Another milestone (his first job as a supervising sound editor) came two years later on the Return to Mayberry reunion special.

Johnson's work in sound editing for film took off in 1996 with the blockbuster science fiction flick Independence Day, and since then he has served as supervising sound editor on a number of feature films. Such credits include U-571, A Knight's Tale, Amazing Grace, Deck the Halls, and The Last House on the Left. He has not forgotten his roots in television, however, as he has also served as supervising sound editor on the TV miniseries John Adams and the TV movie Grey Gardens.
