Bar Rescue is an American reality TV series that premiered on Spike on July 17, 2011. It stars Jon Taffer (a long-time food & beverage industry consultant specializing in nightclubs and pubs), who offers his professional expertise plus renovations and equipment to desperately failing bars in order to save them from closing.

It is an "urban myth" that Taffer takes a percentage of the businesses he rescues. This is false. All renovations and improvements are paid for by Taffer and Spike TV with no cost to the businesses. Additionally, the businesses featured on Bar Rescue are under no contractual obligation to follow any of the rescue protocols or keep any of the changes.

As of December 20, 2015, 100 episodes and 1 removed episode have aired.

111"Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Dumb"Piratz TavernSilver Spring, MarylandJuly 29, 2012 (2012-07-29)

Tracy lives out the ultimate Peter Pan dream by running a pirate-themed bar. Jon sends in his wife, Nicole, to do recon, but she is met with a rather mild atmosphere and is served unusually politely. Nicole pulls out of the recon believing that the staff know who she is. Jon sends in his backup recon team dressed as pirates. They enter to find the bar deserted. After some time, they are served frozen half-cooked food and a disgusting "Grog" beverage. Jon confronts Tracy, who is unashamed of her establishment despite being $900,000 in debt and living in her parents' basement with her husband and 17-year-old daughter. The staff are also problematic, with the chef and husband Juciano having no training and the bar staff unwilling to change from their pirate ways. Recognizing that the bar has a practically non-existent market in Silver Spring, Jon remodels the bar into a corporate-themed bar and grill to capitalise on the nearby business district and lunch traffic. Tracy is unconvinced at the change and after a successful re-opening, she reverts back to the pirate name and theme.

Note: For the recon in this episode, Jon brought in the owners of The Chicken Bone, featured in the seventh episode of Season 1. This is the first bar to change back to its old name and theme. The owner, Brad, has come to hard times when his work setting up the nearby bar Tropical Isle resulted in him being kicked out of the business. He builds his new bar, Turtle Bay, in the shadow of the Tropical Isle with an uninspired theme drawn heavily from his former work. The bar is so empty and unattractive that the recon team walk right past it. Taffer is highly critical of the bar's lack of identity, focusing especially on their signature drink, using the same gimmicky glass design and colour as Tropical Isle's "Hand Grenade", and also their use of microwaved food. To make the bar stand out, Taffer remodels and rebrands the bar as "Spirits on Bourbon", playing on the ghostly theme, changing the bar's primary colour to blue, creating unique cocktails such as the "Resurrection" and providing fresh, authentic Louisiana food.
