The Silent Spy is the 29th installment in the Nancy Drew point-and-click adventure game series by Her Interactive.[1][2] It runs Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X platforms and has an ESRB rating of E for moments of mild violence and peril.

A player takes on the first-person view of fictional amateur sleuth Nancy Drew and may solve the mystery through interrogation of suspects, solving of puzzles and discovery of clues.[3][4] There are two difficulty levels, Amateur and Master, offering appropriately challenging puzzles and hints without affecting the plot. The game loosely based on the book The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes (1964).

Plot

[edit]

Nearly a decade ago Agent Kate Drew left home to neutralize a biochemical weapon in Scotland. While her assignment was a success, she died in a car accident (or so it was told). Now the echoes of a similar plot reverberate and it is up to the player, as detective Nancy Drew, to thwart the sleeper cell and expose the truth.

Characters

[edit]
  • Nancy Drew – She is an 18-year-old amateur detective from the fictional town of River Heights in the United States and the only playable character in the game, so the mystery must be solved from her perspective.
  • Bridget Shaw – A native of Scotland, she may be the friendliest person in Glasgow. Her vast knowledge of the area and insights into current events may be helpful, but her pleasant personality could be a façade.
  • Ewan MacLeod – The main contact at Cathedral is here to assist the mission to uncover what transpired during Kate's final days. He is the eyes and ears around here and cannot be completely trusted.
  • Moira Chisholm – A close confidant to Kate, her memory and personal knowledge will unlock vital information. She also has an unlockable secret.
  • Alec Fell – The first non-playable character after an incident at the train station. His tracking skills could help the case. He knows more about Nancy than he initially lets on.
  • Kate Drew – Nancy's mother was killed in a car accident... or so it's been told. Her secrets are begging to be revealed, but lives could be in great danger if the player survives and the truth is revealed.
