Pootsmann was announced as one of the twenty competing acts in Eesti Laul 2016 on 5 November 2015.[3] He performed in the show's second semi-final on 20 February 2016, and advanced to the final.[4] In the final on 5 March, he was awarded the highest amount of jury points, advancing to the superfinal, where the public chose him as the winner.[1] He will perform during the second half of the first semi-final.[5]
Alongide Jüri Pootsmann, three backing vocalists Kaire Vilgats, Dagmar Oja and Silver Laas support the stage performance.
