Portal Peer Review

An "interwiki transclusion bot"

I'm trying to get someone to write a bot that will copy a few news items from a subpage at Wikinews to a subpage here. The concept is fairly simple. That hard part is to get someone to take pitty one me and do it. I'll keep you posted. RichardF (talk) 01:16, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm working on it. :-) RichardF (talk) 06:25, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
I see that. I'm not too good with that kind of transcluding cross-project stuff, or with bots, so I'll leave that up to you. Cirt (talk) 06:58, 29 December 2007 (UTC).

It's ready. I figure you can start putting that on whatever other portals you want (just see what I've added to the page). Миша13 20:30, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Trivial Entries

I was given a link to "An American Carol" which appears to be a film with no artistic merit that isn't out yet. Furthermore it appears to be a press release.

Under what circumstances is a film too shallow and trivial to be given an entry here? I can envision a situation where everyone's youtube video could be argued to be a valid filmic expression. At the present 9,000 hours of new youtube a day, it's daunting. However I certainly don't think the definition of worthy entry should be limited to studio film. b_calder (talk) 09:16, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

See the talk page of WP:FILMS. Cirt (talk) 02:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I see on portal:video games great templete for representing featured content on that portal. Is it good idea to make similar template on this portal?--Vojvodaeist 15:43, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Seems to me a similar format is already used on this portal - the only main difference being at this portal there is a Show new selections function at the top of the portal, whereas at Portal:Video games the purge function is in that subsection itself. I think this way is better. Cirt (talk) 15:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
matirials on this portal are very good organized. But I think on esthetics aspects of template. This way is good but I think that it could be better if featured content divide by type of article.--Vojvodaeist 16:04, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Featured content is already divided: see the two different featured subsections, one for biographies, and one for articles about films and other general content. Cirt (talk) 16:06, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Help with an article

Can someone come and help with Herman J. Mankiewicz, another editor has been adding incorrect information to the article. Now they are removing all the fact tags and saying they are coming for one reference book that can't be seen online. I suspect that the editor is just adding the ref link cosmetically. He already readded that Herman J. Mankiewicz's parents emigrated from Poland three times, despite my three references that say that the father was born in Berlin and emigrated from Hamburg that I added. Another set of eyes would be welcome to help double check the facts, since there was already that one error in the article. Any volunteers? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 18:19, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

This type of post is appropriate for the talk page of WP:FILMS, but not the portal about the topic of film. Cirt (talk) 20:46, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Help

I'm an Austrian in despair. I cannot create a proper film box for River of fundament. I do not know why the box doesn't show the director, the cinematographer etc. Please help: [1]. Thanks--Meister und Margarita (talk) 21:06, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

@Meister und Margarita: That was strange! There were some strange control characters between the parameter names and the equals signs. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:15, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Hopefully I did not import a virus from German Wikipedia.--Meister und Margarita (talk) 21:21, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
@John of Reading: Thanks a lot for fixing the problem that fast.--Meister und Margarita (talk) 21:23, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Notice from the Portals WikiProject

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:30, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

When lists, when categories?

Why does Wikipedia present some film characteristics by list (such as List of one-location films), and some by category (such as Category:Films about solitude? (Phone Booth, Locke and Buried are examples that are included in both the aforementioned list and category.) Does this happen indiscriminately, just by what editors decide to go with? --143.176.30.65 (talk) 14:25, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Do You Have Any Ideas To Speak On This?

I was researching film for the sake of film and noticed there is no "cop films" template that could be amended to Colors_(film) and other films where police play a major role. Could the same be said for television shows? I know that topic doesn't belong here but there are experts equally invested in the subjects here. Would it be year-by-year? A browseable map? Am I barking up the wrong tree by suggesting that Hollywood could use a directory year-by-year? For instance, after Colors, what was the next major film to be released by a Hollywood studio during this era.. how would you include that in a template? (As an aside, all this came up during a research of the name Hodges... --BornFreePress (talk) 03:02, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

I'm guessing in some respects you're a Wikipedia novice, mistakenly using the word "template" where you mean to use category (or perhaps list). Wikipedia has many categories related to films about the police. Examples are Category:Police films by decade, Category:Films about law enforcement, and Category:American police films. More general starting points, Category:Film by decade and Lists of American films. On the page about Colors, if you scroll all the way down, you'll also find categories that might be of interest to you, such as Category:1980s buddy cop films. --143.176.30.65 (talk) 14:48, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
