On top of truck vs. downstairs compartment

[edit]

According to this, Bhutto was in a downstairs compartment, not on top of the truck

The former premier had just gone to a downstairs compartment in the truck for a rest when the blast occurred, said Christina Lamb, Bhutto's biographer.

"So she wasn't on top in the open like rest of us, so that just saved her," Lamb told Sky News.

Don't be so edit happy

[edit]

Avoid needlessly updating related pages with each tidbit of information as it becomes available. WP Policy states a summary must be provided but specific details of the actual event are relevant only to the main article (otherwise, why have a separate article in the first place?). Of course as the caretaker of the Bhutto article, I am advising you to be wary of your edits and to only include details which directly pertain and seriously affect whatever article you are updating from this one. .:DavuMaya:. 06:40, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Change title & content to reflect a single event

[edit]

I think this should be reported as a single event: the bombs detonated within minutes of each other the close to one another. This is a common tactic used by terrorist groups, which is why it would be considerd as a single attack. I suggest a less sensationalistic title of "2007 Karachi bombing" unless more related mobings are expected. Obviously a redirect would need to be set from the existing page. I agree. The latest that I've read indicates a single attacker threw a hand grenade, then set off his/her body-bomb.[1] A simple move to 2007 Karachi bombing should take care of redirects, right? --Elliskev 12:57, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
if POV matters, it's actually a common "terror tactic". It is all but sure that it is merely or solely a nongovernmental armed group involved, speaking of the whole buch of terror (not -,ist) attacks. Wich is the thing i think you want to suggest with "terrorist group". Terror tactic or even terror 'group ' would at least keep up the likes of objectivity.77.251.179.188 19:54, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Truck?

[edit]

Is the word "truck" used to describe a vehicle in Pakistani English? I suppose the case could be made that this article needn't be edited in British English, since it describes an event in a country in which English is not the majority language and so can use either UK or US English, but I would tend to go with British English anyway, due to Pakistan's use of Commonwealth English. At any rate, is "truck" the best descriptor? What kind of truck? A "rallying truck" is difficult to visualize. It's not at all clear. Moncrief 21:55, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: The BBC calls it simply a "truck,"[2] so never mind, probably. (Well, reading further into the article, they also call the vehicle a "bus," so it really isn't clear.) I always thought "lorry" was British English for "truck," but perhaps that's just the larger variety of the vehicle. Moncrief 21:57, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Burst tire

[edit]

to me this article lacks detail on the bombs

i mean the first explosion wasn't that big. and people thought it was a burst tire (of course the second explosion quickly washed away those thoughts)

i think this should be mentioned

it should also be mentioned that benazir bhutto's bodyguards formed a large human shield around her armoured truck, taking the blast 82.47.137.100 19:31, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Motivation

[edit]

Do we have any idea what the motivation was behind the bombing? Has anyone claimed responsibility? Cause this article begs these questions. Remember 13:44, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I'm aware, there have been no claims of responsibility to the bombing. But the motive is easy to guess: it was almost certainly aimed at killing Ms. Bhutto herself. It seems likely that the people behind it were also behind her assassination yesterday, and having already failed once, made sure they'd succeed on their second attempt. (This is, however, speculation, and probably shouldn't be included in this article.) Terraxos (talk) 16:08, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I'm concerned about the external link showing video footage of the aftermath, because the website itself hosts "accident videos" as well as XXX. I don't know if this is particularly appropriate for a serious topic like this. If this video is hosted anywhere else I'd recommend changing the link. 23skidoo (talk) 19:42, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
