Anarchism and naturismAnarcho-naturism – A few days ago, @Czar performed a unilateral move of this page from "anarcho-naturism" to "anarchism and naturism", giving the edit summary "no source visibly uses this hyphenation; is not the common name". (diff)

This is not correct. It doesn't take long to find the use of the term "anarcho-naturism" in the sources cited in this article; within a minute I found its use in Kirwin Shaffer's book Anarchist Cuba, which is cited throughout this article. Furthermore, it does indeed appear that "anarcho-naturism" is the common name: Google Scholar results find 53 results for "anarcho-naturism";[3] compared with 11 for "anarchist naturism";[4] 6 for "libertarian naturism";[5] 2 for "naturist anarchism";[6] and only 4 for the new page name "anarchism and naturism".[7]

This article certainly needs work to trim the less reliable sources and remove unverified information from it, but I don't think moving it to a different title and then leaving it as before is a good place to start.

As I can't undo the request and I'm not sure this counts as an uncontroversial technical request, I'm requesting this article be moved back to "anarcho-naturism". Grnrchst (talk) 08:31, 20 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 09:40, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Shaffer the only source doing that? And isn't the article using Shaffer's thesis and not the PM Press book? Most of the sources originally used in the article are non-English and didn't use a hyphenated construction, which as you've pointed out in other articles, is more of a neologism, a recent construction. I'm not sure there is enough content here for a dedicated article but the subject of the article isn't a discrete "anarcho-naturism" current but the relationship between anarchism and naturism in multiple locales. It might be sufficient to cover that connection within the naturism article without warranting this separate article split. I don't think English Google Scholar results are instrumental here since the topic doesn't have wide coverage and most of the original sources are non-English. czar 12:36, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure where I've said it was a neologism, you may have to remind me. What I know I have said is that its association with green anarchism is a product of Wikipedia miscategorisation, where it's historically associated with individualist anarchism. As for whether there is enough for a dedicated article, that's another discussion. I would probably support merging relevant information into either the article on naturism or individualist anarchism. --Grnrchst (talk) 13:21, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
re: the hyphenated neologism construction popular in enwiki anarchism ideology article titles ("anarcho-x"), I was thinking about Talk:Anarchist communism#Title neologism in particular, not about "anarcho-naturalism" in specific czar 19:47, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my view, the sources available on Google Scholar when looking up anarchism and naturism suggest that there are more scholars who discuss the two political movements independently, discussing their overlap, rather than as a singular synthesized 'anarcho-naturism'.[1][2] ~ F4U (talkthey/it) 15:30, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ The oral sources used in this project give us information on the degree of acceptance of naturism by the anarchist militancy, and confirm the the extent to which the practices advocated for by the libertarian press came to be realized, or not. [1]
  2. ^ Themes of "free love," liberated sexuality, and naturism were all part of a contemporary anarchist feminism of which Kupka's thought, and Reclus's, is emblematic and with which his art was crucially concerned, expanding to embrace the earth and the universe as a whole. [2]
Relisting comment: Relisting to allow additional discussion. If there is not a consensus against this move then this should result in the article being moved back to its former title. BilledMammal (talk) 09:40, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since it was relisted, oppose per my comment above and F4U, and really both titles should point to a section of an existing article when this is inevitably merged there. czar 11:39, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
