Initials for René Primevère Lesson in the speciesbox

[edit]

UtherSRG reverted my addition of Lesson's initials here. For birds, English wikipedia follows the IOC – Anna's hummingbird is here and Lesson's initials are included.

Initials are added when there is more than one authority with the same name. For example there is a Gmelin, JF and a less common Gmelin, SG. However, in the case of Lesson, only René Lesson is cited as an authority in the IOC list of world birds – perhaps the IOC includes the initials to avoid confusion with his brother Pierre Adolphe Lesson. The brother was a botanist and I haven't come across any animals named by him. It looks as if René Lesson's initials are unnecessary. - Aa77zz (talk) 10:04, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
