Atom RPGATOM RPG – The original name is an abbreviation of the name of the organization A.T.O.M. that explores the Wasteland, and this name is not associated with the concepts of "atom", "atomic", etc. See. presskit. • Weak oppose: I looked at the link provided above, and I do not see "A.T.O.M." (with dots) anywhere or any mention of this being an abbreviation. I also did not find that in any of the cited sources. The fact that this spells the word "atom" is clearly not an accident, especially with all the discussion of nuclear war and nuclear fallout that are at that link. It also seems clear that it is intended to be pronounced as a word. At the bottom it refers to the developers as "ATOM TEAM". That looks like simple all-caps styling of the words "atom" and "team". This source uses "Atom". In one or two sources, I do see some mention of a secret society in the game that is referred to as "ATOM", but without any mention of it being an abbreviation (although perhaps it is). —BarrelProof (talk) 01:07, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The protagonist of the game is a member of the ATOM organization, this is stated in the official press release of the game (link above). The ATOM organization is not engaged in atomic research, it is looking for biological weapons (a thinking mushroom that combines the intellect of those infected into a single mycelium).
The developers of the game several times answered the players that the name is an abbreviation, but they want to keep the value of this name a secret until the next versions of the game (link to the official Atom Team page, in Russian).
The difficulty lies in the fact that it is not customary to put dots in abbreviations in Russian, so the developers decided on a simpler version to avoid different spelling of the name in different language versions of the game.
Also in Russian, the names of organizations, if they are words, are marked with quotation marks ("Atom"), and the form of their ending varies depending on the connection with other words (analogue of the English articles), that is, "Атома", "Атоме" , "Атомом." There are no such changed words in the game and no quotation marks.
In the early versions of the game, the texts used the writing A.T.O.M. (Before version 1.083, this is easy to check by looking at the game files, for example, "ruins_soldier": {"short": "The body of an A.T.O.M. member", "full": "The body of an A.T.O.M. member"). But for the reasons that I wrote about above, the dots were removed in the next version. (Sorry, I do not speak English, so there may be errors in the text.) —FunGorn (talk) 12:29, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
