I think that the game summary for the 08/09 season should be deleted, unless it can be updated on a regular basis? What do other people think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Screen42 (talkcontribs) 17:18, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have been working on upgrading the 1912 FA Cup article using some online sources and the Manchester Guardian match reports. You may be interested to read the updated article and if you have any information to add from any secondary sources it would be great to see it included.

I hope over the next few weeks to set up stubs for the players and add info boxes to the existing ones

Looking forward to any conributions

History of Barnsley FC

[edit]

I've moved the bulk of the history section into it's own page, as it was getting a bit long. This main page should just be a summary, those looking for more detailed information can now go to the other page. Teknofobe 21:56, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Past Times

[edit]

I have started work on a 'Past Times' section. It is still a work in progress -- Teknofobe, 24th April 2007

Good stuff. What do you think about the links at the bottom? Need trimming back? I think they might be one of the things preventing this from becoming a good article. Tomtyke 20:55, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think the stats pages and the multimap could probably be removed. Maybe a couple others since a more complete links page is listed at the bottom. -- Teknofobe, 24th April 2007

I've finished this section. I also added a screencap of the 1912 FA Cup final which I think is now public domain. Teknofobe 22:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photographs

[edit]

Would it be possible for anybody going to the game on Saturday to get some pictures of the ground? This will probably be the last chance before the summer for us to get unlicensed pictures, and the article would really be improved by a couple. Tomtyke 13:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What about using a couple of the pictures from the Oakwell page? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakwell_Stadium

General Changes

[edit]

A few things. I noticed this page had two sections both called "History", so I renamed them "Recent History" and "Timeline". Added a "club records" section. I also removed the trivia section since wikipedia has a policy against them, and I've placed it's content in the intro for now. I put the famous fans in there too since there's only a few names so it doesn't really deserve it's own section. The page might still need more references to meet the 'good article' criteria, but I think this is a step in the right direction. -- Teknofobe, 22 April 2007

http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/History/0,,10309~925106,00.html That's the official history page of club records, there are others covering the seasons. The collection of websites at the bottom needs to be trimmed back aswell. Tomtyke 19:32, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay cool. Must go on a further reference hunt one of these days. The intro is also a lot longer than for most football clubs, and I think most of it could be placed in it's own section. I notice that everything that is said under "Modern Times" is now repeated in more detail in the subsequent headings (great job with those, by the way). So I say we lose "Modern Times" and replace it with a "Past Times (pre-1996)" section that summarises the formation of the club, the FA Cup finals, Tommy Taylor ... basically most of the stuff that was previously in the intro. What do you reckon? -- Teknofobe, 22 April 2007

I think the stuff about the clubs origins and record should stay in the intro, but there are other bits that can be moved. It just seems odd that our whole pre-1996 history is about the founding of the club! I'll trim back the modern times summary. (That was basically the original article before I added the season by season recaps. Tomtyke 02:19, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is true! I could try adding some more stuff about highlights from the clubs history from the last hundred years to that pre-96 section. That official history site has a few articles on that period. -- Teknofobe, 23 April 2007

Tranfers

[edit]

I've tried to include some of the more important transfer activity, can anybody think of important players I've overlooked who should be included? Tomtyke 20:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2006 - 2007

[edit]

Feel free to correct the match summaries or add additional reports. Ill just add the goals to the top scorers when necessary. Average attendance is straight forward enough! --Screen42 22:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can we please keep it so it looks better than a random mash of results and players? I've done all the other seasons, and I'll probably end up editing it at the end of the season, so can we just keep it tidy for now? Cheers Tomtyke 03:29, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I had a shot at giving this section a makeover. I think you'll agree it looks a lot tidier now. I also added a top scorers table but feel free to remove it if it's not permitted. -- Teknofobe, 21 April 2007

I think we might aswell keep it for now, when the season finishes it might be more appropriate to include the information in the article, but yeah, it looks much tidier, thanks. Tomtyke 20:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Football Yearbooks

[edit]

Back in the day when there was no t'internet, I had a brief flirtation with the football year books that where on sale. I recently rediscovered the

  • 1993/94
  • 1994/95
  • 1995/96
  • 1996/97 seasons.

When I get time i'll redue the promotion-to-premiership season. Anyone got any views?--Screen42 21:41, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I found loads when googling, if anyone know any more please add them. --Screen42 22:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Outside Sources

[edit]

I've found a good outside source for the history of the club, but it does need users to login to access it. As such I'm unsure wether it should be included or not. http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/History/0,,10309,00.html Tomtyke 09:14, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

E-mail them and see what they say. They can only say no. As the information is in the public domain, I am sure if you acknowledge them and as their is a link to their site, I can imagine it will be an issue - famous last words! --Screen42 22:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a problem of wether I can use the info or not, Wikipedia generally doesn't allow links to sources that require users to register Tomtyke 17:08, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Squad templates

[edit]

Could somebody who knows about the team make a squad template? Guidelines can be found here SenorKristobbal 09:37, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone know how to make a table so we can have the top scorers? User:screen42

Trivia

[edit]

I have started a trivia section, anyone with any ideas and information please contribute for me! Lets make this the best Chamionship wiki page :)User:screen42

Players

[edit]

I'm not sure if Adrian Moses (Adi Moses) or Dave Watson were instrumental players in Barnsley promotion to the premiership. Yes Dave Watson was a great keeper, but I'd look to single out John Hendrie, Clint Marcelle, Martin Bullock or Arjan De Zeueew as the key players of that season.
(Unsigned by Davey...)

He scored two goals in the 1996/97 promotion season. Impressive enough for a defender from Barnsley..! Bobo. 05:15, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added George Utley to the players list - He played in the 1910 & 1912 FA cup finals and he is evidently the only Barnsley player to have turned out for England whilst still playing for Barnsley. The current George Utley article has some detail on his blades career but little on Barnsley - Does anybody have anything on his time at Barnsley.

Managers

[edit]

The link to the page of Tim Ward needs removing but I don't know how to do it. Tim Ward was a manager for us quite some time ago & therefore already past his prime for playing so it's highly unlikely that the Tim Ward currently playing football in the States is the same man!

Fair use rationale for Image:Barnsley FC.gif

[edit]

Image:Barnsley FC.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Toby Tyke

[edit]

Is mentioning Toby Tyke in the introduction really necessary? Saying that Barnsley's nickname is the Tykes seems fair enough but the bit about toby tyke seems a bit trivial and superfluous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.105.138.223 (talk) 17:27, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Squad table format

[edit]

A discussion is being held here on the possibility of rolling out a new squad template. The new template, named {{football squad player2}}, differs from the standard squad layout in several ways:

  • It features a sort function
  • Comes in a single column format that can be understood by screen readers.
    • Single column format ensures that low resolution browsers, including mobile devices, do not get part or all of the second column cut off.
    • Single column format ensures less clutter, particularly at lower resolutions, for wide sections such as the Arsenal loan section.
  • It gives nationality its own column; at present flags are featured in a blank, untitled column
  • It complies with Wikipedia's guidance on flag usage.
  • It leaves enough space to add images of current players, an example of which can be seen at Watford F.C#Current squad.

It is proposed that the new template be added to some of Wikipedia's most high-profile club articles, which might include Barnsley F.C.. To give your thoughts, please read and contribute to the discussion at WikiProject Football.

Regards, Edinburgh Wanderer 19:37, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The compressed format with multi columns is far better than having the squad in a single column. We have the references in multi-columns so that should not be a problem that people seem to think it is. Keith D (talk) 21:58, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The technical issues were described on the main project page. Whether against or for a read of the main page and comment would be appreciated here WikiProject Football.Edinburgh Wanderer 22:41, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I commented here as the discussion on the project page is far too complex to read, understand and follow for those that have not been part of the discussions. It needs some sort of clear summary of the for/against points extracted from the discussion so that those who have not been involved can see what is going on.
