Hey all, I'm the WikiProject Cities assessor of this article. If feedback is what you want and need, come to my talk page and give me a holler! --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 00:25, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Early History

[edit]

In jr. high, we were told that Barton actually crossed the official township name off the charter and inserted his own in its stead. Can anyone confirm this and, if possible, provide the originally chartered name? User:Snyrt

Can't find it now, but we don't know if the story is merely apocryphal. It didn't seem solid enough for an encyclopedia. (I was told the same thing, but remember, we had Bartons living around us. The story may have been invented and perpetuated just to twit them!) Student7 11:48, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Space in article name

[edit]

Is there any particular reason this article is called "Barton , Vermont" and not "Barton, Vermont"? René van Buuren 22:30, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. Meant to overwrite Barton, Vermont disambiguation (on purpose) and apparently messed up. Just haven't gotten around to correcting it. Feel free! :) Student7 00:24, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I don't think you can move a page onto an existing page. You'll probably have to request the move here and show the consensus that the town takes precedence over the village. René van Buuren 03:33, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. I've requested an uncontested move. We'll see what happens. Student7 12:17, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Percentages in vilages vs town

[edit]

The following unsubstantiated figure was removed Oct 2009: "43% lived outside the villages, 30% lived in Orleans, 27% lived in Barton village." This info is useful because it show the move away from villages, today considered money sumps. This is the problem in microcosm for all incorporated villages which have mostly folded in the state. So it needs to go back, but substantiated, I guess. Student7 (talk) 13:22, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this would be helpful, if we had a source. Any ideas? Nyttend (talk) 13:32, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can't one just use the U.S. Census Bureau Geographic Comparison Table GCT-PH1 for Orleans County? Or is calculating percentages from raw numbers considered original research? --Polaron | Talk 12:37, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I should have thought of that; in my mind, mathematical calculations like this with a source like that aren't at all original research. Are Orleans and Barton village exclusively in Barton town? If not, this table wouldn't work, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't otherwise. Nyttend (talk) 13:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, I did calculate them myself from official census. And, yes, they are both in Barton Town and counted individually. I will replace info. Student7 (talk) 19:55, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
