Of the six items listed on this page, only three link to an article which includes the term 'Basho'. Of those three, one is the 17th century Japanese haikai poet, while the other two are modern musicians who took on the pseudonym Basho as a mark of respect for the above-mentioned poet. It is my contention that 'Basho', rather than linking to this dab page, should redirect to the primary article Matsuo Bashō, which itself should then contain a WP:hatnote pointing to a dab page. Are there any dissenting views? If so, please explain. Thanks. --Yumegusa (talk) 17:25, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd oppose such a move. The current situation works well - checking the Whatlinkshere reveals few links here. I remember when I was disambiguating Basho - not all the links went to Basho, by no means. --Gwern (contribs) 23:02 23 November 2008 (GMT)

Basho → Basho (disambiguation) – Matsuo Bashō is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Basho" and "Bashō." Of the five links currently on the disambiguation page (not including Matsuo), three owe their names to the poet in the first place according to their respective articles. The poet also eclipses all the other entries in pageviews. Therefore, this page should be moved to Basho (disambiguation) and Basho should redirect to Matsuo Bashō. Sorry to have reverted you, Shhhnotsoloud. The guideline you linked in your edit summary, MOS:PRIMARYTOPIC, is very clear and shows that the PRIMARYREDIRECT, which is Basho (and the actual title of this dab page) should be used in the lead just as I initially placed it. JHunterJ apparently did not check the 2nd example given in that PRIMARYTOPIC guideline. He's a trusted admin so I won't get him involved in an edit war; however, I would like to know why he reverted the edit and is going against the community consensus of the guideline?
