Pictures of leaders etc.[edit]

They're not necessary for these articles, and if one wants a picture, simply read the person's actual article. Pictures are only relevant if they are actually taken on a visit to the country in question, or 2 notable people from different countries are together in the same shot. do we put George W in every USA-Y article? or Tony Blair in every UK-X article? LibStar (talk) 03:16, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

so you intend to add George W Bush to every USA-Y article? using a BBC/CNN analogy is poor, they are news services, we are not. LibStar (talk) 03:29, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
you haven't actually provided a reason why these should be included. do you intend to now add pictures of various leaders to all bilateral articles. unless it's a photo of them on a visit, or 2 leaders in 1 shot, it doesn't add to bilateral relations. LibStar (talk) 04:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
well you did provide a reason saying it's like CNN/BBC. Wikipedia is not a news service, so the analogy doesn't cut, news services do that because readers can't click on a WP article on individuals. LibStar (talk) 04:05, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In the BBC they click on the biography of any world leader just like they can in Wikipedia. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 04:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
and CNN and other news services? LibStar (talk) 04:32, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures like this are highly relevant not individual stock photos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bush_Yushchenko_2005.jpg LibStar (talk) 04:08, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Guys, please do not edit war over these per WP:3RR. Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 04:31, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pictures generally make articles more interesting, but they should be clearly relevant to the article. I agree with LibStar. Vicente Fox in Belgium, or Fox talking to Guy Verhofstadt somewhere else, yes. But Fox in a context unrelated to Belgium, no. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:03, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a good idea to try to find illustrations for these articles. File:Catechism 1520 for indigenous by pedro gante.JPG seems fine. Articles like Japanese Brazilian have more that can be relevant to these articles too. Pictures of leaders are sometimes used in the way it's being done in this article, but I don't think it's ideal either. Pictures of embassies could be used easily, but these are less interesting. Commons has quite a few (Commons:Category:Embassies by host country). Other possibilities could be memorials and the like. -- User:Docu

I too agree that these pictures serve no useful purpose here, and have removed them. See my further discussion of them here. Yilloslime TC 21:59, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Text in references[edit]

Is as much as in the article, it does not look good. LibStar (talk) 00:46, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anachronisms[edit]

Talking about "Belgian people" doing things before Belgium was created is an anachronism, no? Should be "Flemish", probably. Disembrangler (talk) 14:49, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
