factual dispute
[edit] Resolved
“During the Republican primary, Thiam ran on a platform including tackling the opioid epidemic and lowering work protections for disabled workers” — need a source that verifies that this is her actual position. (If not, then sounds like a distortion coming from a primary opponent?) Bwrs (talk) 18:14, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Bwrs Hello! I was the editor who added this sentence - I had interpreted these sentences from the Herald-Mail article as something that would lower work protections for disabled workers:
I will sponsor a bill to require people who are currently on disability to undergo assessments more often to determine their ability to work. We must require people to return to work if they’re able.
- I have adjusted the article to more closely match what's written in the article. Y2hyaXM (talk) 18:18, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- The source that you cite says she wants disabled unemployed persons to have their ability to work reassessed more to see whether they are eligible to continue (if I understand correctly) to receive government benefits. You write that she wants to require disabled workers to undergo additional assessments of their ability to work, which really would greatly change (if not reduce) work protections of disabled workers. - Ok,
I've added the word "unemployed"I’ve reworded the sentence again to closely match what you've written. Y2hyaXM (talk) 11:49, 11 May 2024 (UTC)- I just saw in your edit description that you're requesting more references to back up that she's running on these ideas. Unfortunately, there's only one news org that covers Washington County politics (The Herald-Mail) and they've sparsely covered Thiam's campaign. Unless you're willing to cite from voter guides she wrote for the Baltimore Sun, MoCo360, or the Frederick News-Post, I don't think it'd be possible to get more references for that sentence. I personally try to avoid citing voter guides since they're almost entirely written by the candidates themselves. Y2hyaXM (talk) 13:49, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for putting the links to the three voters' guides all in one place. This will be helpful, and I appreciate it. I have removed the POV flag at the top of the section. Bwrs (talk) 12:03, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- I noticed you added a citation needed to the phrase "Thiam ran on a platform". What about this needs to be cited? Y2hyaXM (talk) 12:53, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
