IBA cocktails?

[edit]

An editor changed

...the Cosmopolitan, which adds Curaçao triple sec (such as Cointreau or another brand)...

to

...the Cosmopolitan, which adds Cointreau (a triple sec)...

with an edit summary of "Rules about IBA cocktails specify the IBA recipe is the one to use. Also, most every 'origin'-recipe specify Cointreau, so no. The opposite, though, might work." I assume by "IBA" the editor means the International Bartenders Association. But who cares what they say? It sticks in my craw to valorize a particular brand name because some external body says so. Maybe they have a sponsorship/endorsement relationship with the Cointreau Corporation, who knows? And even if not, their concerns are not necessarily the same as our concerns.

IMO it's a still a Cosmopolitan if you use another brand of triple sec and I would be quite wary telling our readers it isn't, and of endorsing particular brands. On this basis I reverted the edit. Herostratus (talk) 22:31, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
