"Very dated"?[edit]

To call a station built in the 1960s "very dated" seems rather odd and unencyclopaedic. After all many railway stations were built in the 1860s and are still in use. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.72.198.196 (talk) 00:45, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are quite right; however, I can see what the person who wrote that is getting at. The great railway stations of the 19th century and prewar 20th century have a sort of "timeless" quality to them. Cape Town railway station, however, is just ugly and sixties-ish with lots of concrete. It's a sort of double standard: old buildings, if they are beautiful, are "classic" or "historical"; if ugly, they are "dated".
Agreed, though, that it is unencyclopaedic and NPOV; and perhaps in need of a cite. - htonl (talk) 12:34, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the "very dated" bit and reference to "apartheid planning" as nothing specifically related to apartheid was mentioned. I don't feel apartheid should be dragged into the article of every SA building etc from that era if it has no direct bearing on the subject. Booshank (talk) 18:52, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
