Contradiction between precipitation and rainfall

[edit]

Thread retitled from "contradiction".

The text in the climate section reads "The average annual rainfall in Carmel-by-the-Sea is 15 inches per year". The table immediately below that gives a bit more than 20 inches. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 16:25, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No contradiction (necessarily), although a sourced explanation would probably improve the article (to avoid WP:OR and WP:SYNTH). The article section 'Carmel Bay#Climate' already mentions drizzle and the photos already depict the area's fog/mist; it would seem that annual drizzle and mist totals 5 inches of "precipitation", while actual rainfall constitutes the other 15 inches. The article on precipitation explains the basic concept pretty well. --→gab 24dot grab← 17:21, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
