Pinoy916, I've lightened up your photo of the inside of the church a bit. The new addition is located at Image:CathedralInterior2.jpg. I just wanted to give you some notice before replacing the old version. SCUMATT

Photos

I'm going to re-align the photos a bit. Right now, we have too many large photos & it makes the text hard to read. SCUMATT 22:16, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Style & Accuracy

[edit]

This article is rather poorly written, and contains some stylistic and factual errors. I am going to attempt a clean-up soon, but meanwhile I am not particularly comfortable with the description of the cathedral as "Italian Renaissance" in style. While certainly Italianate, the cathedral takes as its model the Baroque - particularly Roman/central-Italian Baroque. However, the style has been "Californiated", so we get the current cathedral, with its bright panels, excess light and colour, and fusion of pictorial-figurative imagery. The exterior architecture is pure Roman Baroque.

Anyway, I'm changing the offending description now, and I'll get to the rest soon! Cravenmonket 02:11, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree. The Cathedral has the centrality/verticality common to baroque architecture. The inside is more Victorian, however. I recall hearing that the design used Trinity Church in Paris as an example. I don't know if anyone has more information than that. Here's a photo of the paris church. The similarity is striking. 129.210.14.71 21:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
