Pronunciation
[edit]It would be helpful to have a pronunciation given. My physics prof in college pronounced it with a silent "r," but the typical rule in French would be to pronounce final "r"s except on infinitives of verbs. However, I know that this rule is frequently violated in the pronunciation of family names.--24.52.254.62 00:48, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- The reason of your confusion is simple: the rule you stated about final r's is false. Indeed, in most French words ending with -er, even if you exclude infinitives, the final r is silent, (although monosyllabic words ending in -er have their r pronounced.) However, the only infallible rule to know if the r is pronounced or not is to look in a good dictionary. --147.210.22.149 19:03, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
