CDE for Linux
[edit]Actually, Red Hat is not the only company who ported CDE to Linux (and the corresponding product, TED, was not a Red Hat's but rather a TriTeal's one).
The other CDE for Linux vendor was Xi Graphics, formerly X Inside (http://www.xig.com/). Their CDE 1.x based product was MaXimum CDE and a CDE 2.x based one DeXtop GUI. Both are discontinued now. AndrewBass 12:17, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Open Motif? No mention of Open Motif
[edit]I'd think since there is (still active) discussion of Open Sourcing CDE, some mention could be made of Open Motif- which is under a "royalty sharing" lisence, free for Open Source projects using it. Cuvtixo 15:32, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Solaris8-cde.png
[edit]Image:Solaris8-cde.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:DECwindows-openvms-v7.3-1.png
[edit]The image Image:DECwindows-openvms-v7.3-1.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --08:22, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I see the image still exists, and if I go to its page, it says it's linked to by two other articles -- and doesn't have explicit fair-use rationales for either. Can anyone add fair-use rationales, or just the uploader?--NapoliRoma (talk) 14:58, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Everyone can add fair-use rationales. I added rationales for all three main articles that link to the image. I hope it is ok now and nobody complains. Ghettoblaster (talk) 16:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
DECwindows
[edit]DECwindows redirects here, but is not explicitly mentioned anywhere in the article. Also, a quick poke around seems to show that DECwindows is not the same as CDE -- it's the Digital name for their X subsystem on both VMS and UNIX, which did eventually gain a "DECwindows CDE" GUI.
So, should DECwindows be fleshed out into its own article, or should there at least be a brief mention on this page that "DECwindows CDE" was one DECwindows display option?--NapoliRoma (talk) 14:26, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'd certainly like to see more information regarding DECWindows being added. Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 04:32, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
CDE on Linux
[edit]The article says that Redhat was the only distro to which CDE was ported, but I'm pretty sure that I ran/saw CDE running on SuSE in the late 1990's...
Just a thought. (Prlewis0 (talk) 09:24, 24 August 2008 (UTC))
Solaris Updates
[edit]Need to update with current info on Oracle Solaris (which I will admit, have no idea whether includes CDE or not). nprice (talk) 03:45, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Conflict of Interest Declaration
[edit]As a wiki editor and also one of the admins of the open-source CDE project (and the creator of the 2006 open-source petition), I'll try to keep my edits limited to things that are uncontentious and backed by 3rd party sources.--Flibble (talk) 17:06, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Standard?
[edit]"For a long period, it was the "classic" Unix desktop associated with commercial Unix workstations." I thought it was actually standard, i.e. part of SUS - is this not the case? - David Gerard (talk) 07:17, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- According to http://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/testing/prodstds.htm CDE was part of the 'UNIX98 Workstation' Standard, but not part of the earlier or later standards, or the base 'UNIX98' standard.--Flibble (talk) 10:57, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'll note that, thank you! - David Gerard (talk) 11:15, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Common Desktop Environment. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
- Attempted to fix sourcing for http://bubl.ac.uk/ARCHIVE/subject/computing/misc/coseup6.htm
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}
