Cris Miró in 1998
Cris Miró in 1998
  • ... that by being the first travesti to become a national celebrity, entertainer Cris Miró (pictured) increased the visibility of the Argentine transgender community in the country's society during the 1990s?
  • Source: Página/12. Quote: "Su aparición pública cinco años atrás representó un momento de cambio en la visibilidad de las travestis." (English: "Her public appearance five years ago represented a turning point in the visibility of travestis."); "Cris Miró fue un símbolo: fue alguien que pudo exponer su trasvestismo, pero que además logró la aceptación de la sociedad. Porque antes de él, los travestis no tenían lugar y menos lugar público." (English: "Cris Miró was a symbol: she was someone who could expose her travestility, but that also achieved society's acceptance. Because before her, travestis did not have a place, least of all a public place.")
  • Source: University of Buenos Aires. (English: "It cannot be ignored that one of the people who opened and traced the path that would come for travestis to break into the media scene was, without a doubt, Cris Miró. With her, it was possible to visualize the reality of many other travestis that occupied the streets, offering her body, 'putting desire at the door', as Berkins affirms.")

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - A couple of tweaks are needed here. "ushered the visibility" doesn't make sense (raised/increased the visibility?) Also, it's a bit redundant to say "Argentine" three times, and I don't think all three times are necessary.
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: This article is really good, and can definitely run on DYK with a few tweaks. Let me know if you have any questions or you're ready for a re-review. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 21:37, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I modified the text and sourced the claims made in the lead section. Please let me know if its okay. Thank you!Rumba Samba Mambo (talk)
I now modified the article's lead section to appear more neutral.Rumba Samba Mambo (talk) 17:44, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is so close, Rumba Samba Mambo! The one thing I still don't see support for in the lede is the very last bit, and a trans icon for the local LGBT culture. I don't read Spanish fluently, though, so if it is supported by the source feel free to tell me that and I'll assume good faith. Otherwise you could just remove that line and this nomination would be good to go. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 18:22, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Ezlev! The source simply describes her as "the first trans icon of Argentina". I notice the sentence was maybe a stretch, so I removed it. Rumba Samba Mambo (talk) 18:35, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
