Untitled[edit]

I think it would be necessary to divide between the game(s) (Cube 2: Sauerbraten and Eisenstern) and the engine itself, otherwise the topic becomes fuzzy. For the reader it is undecideable what the article is really about when it says game type is both fps and rpg. Right now the article only describes Aardappels current work as common. [1]

On the CD of Macworld UK's July 2007 issue: "Sauerbraten, also known as Cube 2, is a multiplayer/singleplayer first-person shooter in the vein of Doom 2/Quake 1"

I added the part about it being in Games for Windows, and also the Macworld UK review on its website. I did not add anything about it being in the MacWorld UK magazine because it was actually just saying it was on the included CD. I included a citation for the two things I added, but the Games for Windows reference doesn't include a link to anything since it's a magazine. That's exactly right, thank-you. I would perhaps just mention exactly what it was that Games for Windows mentioned, even if it's just "The game was mentioned in Games for Windows: The Official Magazine, who highlighted the creativeness of the built-in editor." Screenshot License Problems[edit]

Only the game engine of Sauerbraten is licensed under the free ZLIB license, not the game data, see the lincense part at the bottom of http://sauerbraten.org/README.html for details (If you want to produce new content with the sauerbraten engine, you have to be aware that the source code may be Open Source, but the game and the media it consist of have their individual licenses and copyrights. and You CANNOT simply redistribute the entire sauerbraten package with your modified files, as the majority of game media is not yours to use freely (it is made by many authors with a variety of licences and copyright restrictions).). Therefore commons:Image:Sauerbraten_screenshot_878348.jpg was deleted. I don't know whether the screenshots could be used under fair use here, but ZLIB license isn't accurate.--Innenrevision (talk) 16:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits[edit]

Although Salzman has contributed quite a bit to the project recently, van Oortmerssen has written the majority of the engine code and was the project founder. I believe we should leave the names list as it is, otherwise it could be argued that other people be credited and the list could expand out of proportion. Also, the link you provided is unnecessary. This is untrue. Several issues: the majority of the code has long since actually been written by me, I am the lead developer and pretty much the only active developer on Sauerbraten (with some assistance from occasional contributors), Wouter has not been actively involved in the code for a while, and using Wouter as the primary contact for developer information only serves to have him repeatedly forward any such contacts to me. This article is coming under alot of dispute from people who are unfamiliar with the project itself. Members of the actual Sauerbraten community have tried to assist in making the article more accurate, but too many people with too little or inaccurate information keep reverting this article. I had attempted to provide citations for all information only to have them reverted again. Wouter no longer has an active role in the project, and Lee indeed has taken lead on it. As an open source project under constant revision, code is often rewritten, and for the last few years only Lee has been constantly working on it, making the code itself no longer resemble the original code which Wouter wrote. It is my belief that the current state of the article is being compromised by Edit Wars, consisting mostly of nitpicking. It would be appreciated that accurately provided information be left intact, and in the event that an editor has a problem with updates to the article, to suggest a better method or approach rather than engaging in Disruptive Editing. This article is publicly viewable information that, if incorrect, has a negative impact on the project itself (and its contributors, see Eihrul's comment above). Point taken. I apologize, I guess I'm just biased to edits done by IPs rather than registered users. Also, on the article that was linked to, it did originally say that van Oortmerssen wrote the majority of the code. Notability of Inexor?[edit]

Inexor no longer is a fork of Cube 2; the team decided to write their own engine from scratch. It can be re-added as a derivative, though, once it receives coverage (project is still in early stages of development). TucanHolmes (talk) 17:18, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
