I've not heard of Watson until quite recently, when he was coaching for England and now for Norwich City. In this short space of time, I've seen probably 20 references to him in RS, and every single one of them has called him "Dave", not "David". I'm therefore proposing to rename the article per WP:COMMONNAME, if there's no objection. --Dweller (talk) 12:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In his playing days, he was generally known as David, maybe by choice, more likely to avoid confusion with the much higher-profile England, Everton (and ex-Norwich) centre half who was active at the same time. (Not sure that one's a clear primary topic ahead of the 65-England-caps Sunderland/Man City/etc centre half David Watson (footballer born 1946), who I'd have thought was also a Dave rather than a David, but that's by the by.) These days, the goalkeeping coach is always called Dave, so I'd support renaming to Dave Watson (footballer born 1973). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:21, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
