Hi @Bastun:, I had added the category category:Roman Catholics from Northern Ireland to the Denis Tuohy article because one of the things he's notable for is being the first Catholic BBC broadcaster in Northern Ireland; before him, the BBC had an unwritten "no Catholics" policy [1] but his interviewers decided to hire him without informing their superior that Tuohy was Catholic [2]. Do you think that's sufficient to re-add him to the category? Cheers, gnu5710:00, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Genericusername57. The relevant policy is WP:BLPCAT, which states "Categories regarding religious beliefs (or lack of such) or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief (or lack of such) or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources." (My emphasis added). I quickly scanned the article on first noticing the addition of the category and missed the relevant sentence - I just knew Tuohy as a broadcaster and wasn't aware of his religion. Personally I think it's a borderline case - it was one event and his notability doesn't derive from it - but I've no objection to you re-adding it. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ!12:33, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, sounds good, thanks. I think I'll hold off on re-adding the category until I've fleshed out that part of the text. Cheers, gnu5714:58, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
