Listing of Diners, etc. visited
[edit]Do we want to list the various restaurants, etc. featured on the show? Currently Food Network has a listing but I can see this going away, particularly when they get beyond a single year. If no one objects, I'll write the section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gahnzz (talk • contribs) 19:39, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- The problem with the list is that it comes off as a directory. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 08:01, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- I saw an episode that Is not yet listed. I don't remember the name of the episode, but one of the restaurants was a burger place in St. Paul, MN called Nook's. I would add it to the list myself, but I don't know the episode info. Is anyone still keeping up with this list? Maybe a date should be added to show when the list was last updated.12.216.168.178 (talk) 18:01, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- See WP:LIST. The external links need to be removed per WP:EL, WP:SPAM, and WP:NOT#LINK. --Ronz (talk) 17:24, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Looking over this closer, I think the entire list should be removed per WP:NOT and WP:SPAM. I think it would be helpful to get opinions from editors that have a great deal of experience with tv show articles. Is there a wikiproject that's related? --Ronz (talk) 21:15, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- There's a general tv project and that's it. I'm going to remove the list. It's unencyclopedic and essentially serves as a promo or link farm. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 06:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- I added a link to the Foodtv site that has the list of places visited. Much better than listing them here. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 06:11, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
This article sucks now without the listings of diners visited. Someone put a lot of effort into it just so a jackass like whokitty could change it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.136.185.73 (talk) 15:04, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
I would argue the listing is encyclopedic in so far as it aggregates information pertaining to the content of the show. On other TV related entries, episode guides are included, with links to complete summaries to individual episodes. Is the non-narrative nature of the show the reason why such a list cannot exist here? The other argument by woohookitty is equally absurd: to say the links were promotional entirely begs the question without providing specific criteria as to what that means. The whole entry is promotional in so far as it describes a show that is advertised and profited off of, the link to foodtv is promotional in so far as its linking to a company (if anything whokitty could be a food tv rep directing traffic to the foodnetwork official web page). My point, anything about a consumer product could be construed as promotional without specific guidelines as to what that means and clearly articulating the violation of that standard 76.31.244.197 (talk) 14:08, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Might as well go for Speedy Delete since the entire article is pointless now. Don't remove content. Improve it. 2.107.11.94 (talk) 10:27, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
The list of places visited is essential to providing information about the show. If it were a show about traveling, would you find it reasonable to remove the list of cities visited because providing such a list could be seen as a promotional for those partiular cities? I think not. The list should stay. Gabr16 (talk) 14:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- We would create an episode list, not a list of every place (with address) that the show visited. There's just no reason for it given that the website has the information. An episode guide would be fine but this wasn't an episode guide. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 08:41, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Other point to make is that Wikipedia is not a travel guide. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 17:49, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
The foodnetwork site does not have the listings anymore from what I can tell. The whole show is to talk about great food places. There really is not much of a point for this entry if all it says is that its a show that talks about food.--76.102.150.25 (talk) 08:10, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
The Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives book
[edit]There is a book now, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. An All-American Road Trip . . . with Recipes!" http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9780061724886/Diners_Driveins_and_Dives/index.aspx. It's been on the New York Times bestseller list. Should it be included with this article? Slowloosegravel (talk) 17:30, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Links section being vandalized
[edit]Just as a note, this user (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/75.168.250.99) seems hell bent on adding in a fan site. I wouldn't be surprised if this person was the sites owner. 24.99.178.246 (talk) 00:06, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- I've reverted it, yet again, and have issued them a level 4 (final) warning. If they attempt to add it again, report them to WP:AIV. --132 03:07, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- And, yet again. I gave this new IP a level 4/only warning. If they continue to deliberately jump IPs, I'll request the page be protected. I'd rather avoid that though so other anon editors (like you) can edit the article. Let's hope they back down soon. --132 17:09, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- I see no reason not to give the link to XLinkBot (talk · contribs). --Ronz (talk) 19:59, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think that would be a good idea, though I don't know how to go about getting it added. --132 20:13, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- You can make a request at User talk:XLinkBot/RevertList. --Ronz (talk) 20:21, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- I've added them to the request list. --132 20:40, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

- Guys, be on the lookout. There's an alternate link being spammed here and other Food Network articles (this is a database of all Food Network related locations instead of one specific show). I've already reported it to XLinkBot and reverted all the inclusions, but I have zero doubt it'll be added again before the report gets reviewed. I understand that the people who have set these up have put a lot of time and effort in their sites, but it's still spam per WP:ELNO. --132 18:07, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this up. By "alternate link" do you mean this a new link related to an old one? --Ronz (talk) 20:03, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it's "related" to an old one, but it is nearly identical, both in content and format. I used "alternate" because either it is related to an old one or because people are just trying to dig up other similar links that haven't been blacklisted yet. --132 21:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. I don't see any direct relationship either.
- I think such problems are inevitable given the popularity of these shows and how they promote specific eating establishments. --Ronz (talk) 00:37, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Oxford Comma or not
[edit]Do we employ the Oxford comma or not? Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives redirects to Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives...but the image in the infobox has no comma after diners (likely inferred behind the sign), and a comma after Drive-Ins...and we have List of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Episodes. So which is it? --ColonelHenry (talk) 23:11, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
Premise
[edit]The section on the show's premise isn't so much wrong as not quite right. When the episode's theme is where to get great food in a specified city or region, all of the establishments featured are in that area. However, if the theme's a specific type of food, or cooking style, the episode goes all over the country. As an example, if the theme's Mexican food, you might find a Mexican restaurant in New England and one in Wisconsin along with one in the Southwest or in California.
