Video card

[edit]

The game runs just fine on my GeForce 5900XT, so it doesn't need pixel shader 2. Video card listing is inaccurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.225.199 (talk) 16:05, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dclogo.gif

[edit]

Image:Dclogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Real world Car Types

[edit]

Would it be appropriate to link the car types in the Table to their real world counterparts? --81.110.254.233 15:42, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be original research at best. You'd have a very hard time proving verifiability, and as there really aren't any sources cited for this article, it could end up being removed as WP:OR easily. --TatharNuar 23:38, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Except for the ones that are explictly named ie Dodge Viper. 81.110.245.215 (talk) 17:11, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And except for Panda, which was stated by a GM to be the Toyota AE86 Trueno. Found the post it was on. The post doesn't mention that it's the Trueno, so that part would probably be either WP:OR or from an unreliable source. [1] --TatharNuar (talk) 20:10, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A reminder to all editors

[edit]

Read WP:OR, WP:RS, WP:SPS, and WP:CITE before making any edits claiming what a car's real name is. These claims are likely to be challenged and therefore must be supported by a reliable source. This source must be properly cited per WP:CITE. --TatharNuar (talk) 00:34, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The matter has been already resolved looong time ago and you are pretty much outdated. Please investigate ijji forum for more information (e.g. http://forums.ijji.com/showthread.php?t=96757). I will now correct some awful mistakes on the list.

I'm aware of that list. Although it is published, it is a weak source because it is largely based upon speculation. Since the difference between two car models can often be so minimal that one can be mistaken for the other, a single unofficial source does not appear to satisfy WP:RS to me. Also, please remember to sign your comments. I really don't know who I'm talking to. --TatharNuar (talk) 00:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some poeple Don't seem to get the message, I've removed three lots of OR from the List today. 82.22.144.78 (talk) 19:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the last one you reverted had a source mentioned in the edit summary. Although, it's not a proper citation, a revert was not necessary. I've asked the contributor to review WP:CITE to properly source the addition. Multiple sources saying the same thing would be a good idea since we're dealing with unofficial, self-published sources. I'd suggest adding a citation needed tag to each car name without a cited source. --TatharNuar (talk) 21:56, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sega?

[edit]

Two anonymous editors added references to Sega as distributor and publisher. I have not seen any information outside of this article to suggest that Sega has any involvement with the game. If I am in error by removing these references, please add sources. --TatharNuar 17:48, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sega has made it back as the distributor. Who keep doing this? 81.110.245.215 (talk) 17:02, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to know what source thinks Sega is the distributor. Dealing with anonymous editors regarding the matter is a bit difficult, so maybe getting the source's information correct would be a better option. --TatharNuar (talk) 20:06, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Live service?

[edit]

After reading [2], the thread seems to be written in a manner refering that the game is in live service. Should we change it to be official? It seems they have skipped Open Beta, as other ijji games that had an Open Beta declared so on an image on the game page. ~Ambrosia- talk 02:34, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They didn't skip open beta, but it is now in live service. --TatharNuar (talk) 04:50, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What was the date of live service? Because that post was made very shortly after the game supposedly entered OB. =X ~Ambrosia- talk 17:58, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. That post was made after the game entered live service. It was in open beta months ago. I can't remember exact dates though. --TatharNuar (talk) 02:08, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just took a look to see if they announced it somewhere, and the only mention of the word "live" in an announcement relating to the September 5th update that also brought the game into open beta. Even if we could put a date to it, there'd be no way of verifying it. All we can do it say that it's currently in live service but wasn't on September 5th. --TatharNuar (talk) 05:11, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ambrosia's Revert?

[edit]

Why did you remove the link from Panda in the latest anon edit? WP:OR? Because in one of the events, one of the prizes was an RC car of the AE86 and the GM that posted the event details on the forums mentioned that the Panda was the AE86. Otherwise, the link seems fitting. --TatharNuar (talk) 18:18, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Was unaware of that. If you're going to re-add it, a citation should be included. ~Ambrosia- talk 04:01, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although that case wouldn't be OR, I can see how it would invite future links that would involve OR or information from third parties that would be little better than educated guesswork. Is that suitable per Wikipedia guidelines? I suppose verification would be possible by comparing the cars in question, but it's still a very weak form of verification since different car models can look very similar. I'd rather get consensus before I put the link back. --TatharNuar (talk) 20:03, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added the link and reference in the meantime so I wouldn't misplace the post link. [3] --TatharNuar (talk) 20:16, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You reverted the edit I made that put the reference back in again. It seems to have been a mistake, so if it was, please redo it for me. --TatharNuar (talk) 08:32, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe major fanistes are allowed (especially if they offer additional information) per the manual of style. Might be wrong though. --TatharNuar (talk) 19:15, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There aren't any brazilian or european versions of the game yet. 14:42, March 24 2008 (Brazilian time) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.207.144.53 (talk) 17:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that makes it a bit simpler. On to a similar question, I'm aware of a Japanese version hosted by Arario, but is there another one hosted by NHN or another company? --TatharNuar (talk) 00:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A call to source

[edit]

The recent nomination for deletion raises a point. This article needs to have reliable sources and external links to notable third-party sites that have significant mentions of the game. I'm going to begin by going through Google's news archives and adding external links and sources and letting others sort through what citations actually need to be cited. Use this as a start. --TatharNuar (talk) 07:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just found a template to help discourage the recent lists of unencyclopedic content on this article like the ones I reverted earlier today. If anyone spots any more sections that belong in a game guide, please add {{Copy to gaming wiki}} to the top of the section. --TatharNuar (talk) 09:41, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just did some source-hunting and found 7 links that could be used as sources. I've added them to the external links section as they haven't been cited yet. Enjoy. --TatharNuar (talk) 18:03, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to make intermediate edits if doing so will help the article become well-sourced. Per WP:IMPERFECT and WP:INSPECTOR, even if your intermediate version would create an assumption that the subject is not notable (as is common whenever a passerby is unfamiliar with a subject) the article should survive AfD. Of course, since I added 7 new external links today, it probably won't be nominated for deletion on a notability basis anyway. --TatharNuar (talk) 02:54, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To the person who removed the external links again, please don't remove them again without converting them to in-line references. This article was nominated for deletion on grounds of notability, and those links continue to be necessary to show notability. While in-line references are indeed preferred, until someone takes the time to convert the links to references, the links must remain as external links to prevent another nomination for deletion. --Tathar (talk) 21:51, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It happened again. Maybe whoever removed them this time can explain why? --Tathar (talk) 09:53, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added Template:Gameguide because of the editors that seem to think that Wikipedia is a place to add game guide information. I would like to instruct editors seeking to add game guide information to do so in the StrategyWiki guide listed in External Links as it is the appropriate place to include such information. --Tathar (talk) 21:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also please see WP:GAMEGUIDE and WP:GAMETRIVIA. --Tathar (talk) 21:29, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another name

[edit]

I was just add some information about an online game named "Drift Street" in Thailand (Thai server, Thai language version) is the same game as Drift City/Skid Rush, but another Wikipedian thinks it is not notable or suitable for English Wikipedia (Not the international name and not the name use in its country origin) and remove it. Now I am understand with his reason. But I want to just keeping the Drift Street redirect page before there are another meanings of "Drift Street" or "drift street" phrase. --Love Krittaya (talk) 05:25, 30 June 2009 (UTC) (Edit: Official language of that country is Thai, and the second language using in Thailand is English language. (I don't know why not using Drift City name in that country server. Drift City name maybe too similar to another Korean online racing game "Raycity Online" that available in that country too.) --Love Krittaya (talk) 08:19, 9 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Well, maybe you can explain what the reason is, because it's worth noting at least the Thai information needed for the infobox, and the local name definitely adds context. --Tathar (talk) 22:54, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He meant me. The name of the Thai version of Drift City isn't notable enough for inclusion - the game wasn't developed there. Thanks! Fin© 19:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have to see some links to policy. Without the Thai name, the article implies that it's called Drift City everywhere but Korea. --Tathar (talk) 22:15, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if such a policy exists (I can have a look if you want), but it's common sense. If a game had a different name in two different english-language regions (like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy), that should be pointed out, but if a game has a different name in a non-english-speaking country, that's simply not notable enough for the english wikipedia. Thanks! Fin© 23:46, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you can find a way to not mention it without implying that it is called Drift City everywhere except Korea, then I'd like to see what you pull off, but I still don't feel comfortable with the implications of not including it. Keep in mind that one should not use policy or guidelines to create implications which are falsehoods. Such implications are damaging to the article, and if applying a particular policy prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, it should be ignored. After all, policy and guidelines serve as merely an approximation of the best practices to improve Wikipedia, and it is inevitable that an approximation will differ from actuality in at least some cases. --Tathar (talk) 18:45, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also like to point out WP:PCR since that's essentially what this is about. Sure, "Drift Street" isn't notable enough to warrant its own article on the English Wikipedia, but if it's necessary to establish context, then notability or the lack thereof of of that particular context doesn't mean very much when the notability of the article's subject has already been solidly established. --Tathar (talk) 19:47, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I have a habit of using notable when not referring to the actual WP:NOTE policy, I didn't mean to do so in this case. I simply don't think it's notable/relevant to include that a game is called a different name in Thailand, where they speak Thai, not English. If you're going to include that, then shouldn't all game articles include every name the game was released under? The vast majority of titles have different names in Japan, but only ones that were developed in Japan feature the Japanese name in the English article. Thanks! Fin© 22:10, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
When speaking of exceptions to the rules, each case must be decided on its own merits; that is, exceptions are not to spark sweeping changes to policy. That's not the purpose of WP:IAR. --Tathar (talk) 04:34, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but you haven't addressed the central point - why should the article on the English language wikipedia state an alternative name for a Korean developed game that's only used in one (non-English speaking) country, Thailand. Thanks! Fin© 08:00, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I made it clear enough, but the alternative name is necessary to provide context; without it mentioned, the article misleads readers into thinking that the game is called Drift City everywhere but Korea, and if they ran into the Thai version under the name Drift Street, questions would inevitably be raised regarding whether they are in fact the same game. We don't want to mislead readers by leaving out information. That's why we have WP:PCR even if the context itself wouldn't warrant an article or a section in an existing article. --Tathar (talk) 17:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In Thailand, "Drift Street" (Drift City - Thai version http://www.driftstreet.in.th/) is (I think it is)not publish by NHN/NPLUTO, but licensed (or legal version, or copyrighted from NHN/NPLUTO... I don't know what the word/phrase/sentence for said about that.) by another company in Thailand. --Love Krittaya (talk) 03:59, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Krittaya, please keep your further comments where the current conversation is rather than to the bottom of your post when so many posts have already been added in response. It seems that English is not your first language, but it's very hard to follow what you're saying. Are you saying that it's not notable because some other MMO has a similar name? --Tathar (talk) 04:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am not mean that. What I said is just guessing why the Thai version is not using "Drift City" name (maybe similar to Raycity Online game name or a car name (Honda) City). --Love Krittaya (talk) 04:06, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As regards whether to include the Thai name, I don't think the fact that people might inadvertently think that was called "Drifty City" everywhere is that big a deal, when there's only one region, that's not English-speaking that doesn't call it that. Using that same logic - doesn't the infobox suggest that only mouse and keyboard can be used in the game? What about joysticks or driving wheels? Just because something isn't mentioned (such as alternative names), doesn't immediately imply the opposite (that it's the same name the world over). A redirect is fine, but there's no need to include the name. Thanks! Fin© 07:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's right, it doesn't automatically imply anything. However, I can't think of a way to not imply it in this case without including the Thai name. --Tathar (talk) 23:28, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The current version seems to do a pretty good job in this regard. I'm not sure what MoS has to say about such a short intro section though. --Tathar (talk) 05:18, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I think the article should written name as Name (other english name only), because all other name are translated, but since this is an english wikipedia we should include only english parameters. I think bracketing the name does the same purpose as having a commonly known name e.g. rabbit and a scientific name.

Just because scientific name is less commonly used, doesn't confiscate that it is insignificant to the article. --75.154.186.99 (talk) 22:24, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thai version publish the game with an "English language name" and not giving the name of game with Thai language. The word "Thai name" I mean the "name of Thai version", not "Thai language name" (Sorry, my wrong in using English). (I don't know about the name of Korean version and another version.) --Love Krittaya (talk) 13:27, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar Re-Write

[edit]

I've gone through the page as part of WikiProject:Grammar and re-written the whole piece to make it a little more legible. Also removed the cleanup links, as it looks to me as though the article is now sufficiently sourced. Please let me know if I've missed anything! iPatrickQuinn (Talk) 15:44, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article tags - OK to drop?

[edit]

Some tags were removed after the grammar work mentioned above. I have restored them and propose them for removal, if there are no concerns, in a few days.

Game Guide - should this be removed? - Sinneed 15:50, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think this can be removed. Instead, I am restoring the cleanup tag.- Sinneed 15:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Primary Sources - should this be removed? - Sinneed 15:50, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Very strongly oppose removal. Official or fan site sourcing only.- Sinneed 15:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fan Site - should this be removed? - Sinneed 15:50, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't *TOO MUCH* glow... this seems likely to be covered in the cleanup tag, so I would support removal.- Sinneed 15:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Should really have thought about this before removing the tags, I guess you're right, primary sourcing is still an issue, so keep that, other than that, I think Game Guide and Fan Site can go, it's not written too far outside of the guidelines for video games, and I don't think it resembles a 'fan site' at all, aside from the primary sourcing issue we already covered... iPatrickQuinn (Talk) 08:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References got removed again

[edit]

Could someone please find and reinclude the references that were once used in this article, or include other good sources that establish notability? There have been questions of notability in the past mainly due to the then-current version of the article missing the references section. I used to spend some time making sure that notability was established, but the article has been changed since then, and I no longer have enough understanding or connection with the game to be able to find appropriate sources. Thank you. --Tathar (talk) 04:12, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
