Ellie The Elephant... Or Ellie The Elephant?

Does anybody know if the mascot is named after the video game character from Donkey Kong Country 3? Thanks to a bump courtesy of Stephen Colbert, there is a chance of confusion between the mascot and the animal buddy. There should be a disclaimer that this mascot is not to be confused with the video game character. Are there any existing articles which address this? Did you read the Ellie_the_Elephant#Origins section?

I haven't played the game recently, but I looked into Ellie from Donkey Kong and it appears there are limited reliable sources that mention this elephant. Here are two: [1] [2] If there are more featured articles, perhaps the DK Ellie could qualify for a Wikipedia article in the future. Did the Donkey Kong expansion at Super Nintendo World happen and did it include an Ellie ride?

Construction for the Donkey Kong Country (yes, that is what it's called) attraction has been delayed to late 2024 per Universal Studios Japan on Twitter. An article from Nintendo Life can be found here. And on the topic of Ellie, it doesn't seem that she is seen or mentioned in any of the articles and/or videos about the attraction.
