Deletion

[edit]

I deleted the "Death" section. The story in it is actually attached to the other female monument at Abergavenny, sometimes reputed to be that of Eva's mother (also Eva de Braose). Even the attribution of this monument is disputed, and the authority for the story rests on a sixteenth century poem by Thomas Churchyard. Doug (at Wiki) 16:07, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I counter Balance this as i think this is a very unusual death and i think it should be included — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.219.59.15 (talkcontribs)
This "Death" section cannot be included until you address the objection above - It is nothing to do with the subject of the article. You have the wrong Eva de Braose!Doug (at Wiki) 22:21, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It not the wrong one , ive looked many rescourses and they say the eva that died by the fall was in 1255 and this woman died in 1255. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.219.59.15 (talkcontribs)

If you could just produce one reliable source we could discuss it sensibly. But you seem to have missed the point. The story is related to a different monument. And impersonating another editor will not give you much credibility here. Doug (at Wiki) 19:27, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Quite agree with Doug. And impersonating another editor may, in fact, get you blocked. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:34, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Effigy of Eva?

[edit]

The wesbite for the Priory Church of St Mary, Abergavenny says: "In the Chancel is the tomb of Eva de Braose, who died in 1246, her effigy bearing a shield decorated with the Cantilupe fleurs de lis. It is the oldest monument in the church." So the dates don't match. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:48, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

the 1246 date matches the death date in our article of her mother Eva Marshal, but why would the mother have the son-in-law's fleur de lis? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:55, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We certainly need a better source. The church website is hardly a very strong one. Joseph Bradney's History of Monmouthshire (Vol. 1, Part 2B) might help. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:03, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure which fact you are looking for a source for. This Eva's death is well sourced in the article as July 1255. The church's notes are wrong there. (I will write and tell them!) There is no doubt whose effigy it is. Her mother had no close connection with Abergavenny and certainly none at all with the Cantilupe arms. But I'll look for an acceptable source for the fact. Doug (at Wiki) 01:35, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
the sources seem to place her death anywhere from 1240-1265 as far as i can see. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:24, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All modern reliable sources acknowledge the date of Eva's death to be about 20th July 1255. The source given in the article, The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, is about as reliable as you can get!Doug (at Wiki) 03:23, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
