Page Title Is a Mistranslation!

[edit]

"Buchhandel" is an old German word for publishing, due to the way the industry evolved in Germany. So the name of the prize must be translated "Peace Prize of the German Publishers' Association" -- and in fact it is conferred by the German publishers' association, the Börsenverein.

How do we go about moving the page to a more appropriate name? Wegesrand (talk) 16:28, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Börsenverein calls the English name of the prize on their own homepage "Peace Prize of the German Book Trade" (https://www.friedenspreis-des-deutschen-buchhandels.de/445941/). So I'm for a revertion of the move. Grimes2 (talk) 15:37, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Why not use the original name? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:51, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK Grimes2 (talk) 19:35, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think that solves that it represents both publishers and sellers. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:44, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Will you move, please? I created a stub for Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels but have a RD nom waiting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:46, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The last time I moved an article was a desaster. But I will try. Grimes2 (talk) 20:00, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) I tried, but it takes an admin, sorry. valereee? Can you please move it to Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels? All translations have problems, including the one on the official website. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:15, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt, I think I've done it -- might want to check my work to make sure I didn't misunderstand something! --valereee (talk) 11:48, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:51, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! —Wegesrand (talk) 13:33, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Depending on German organizations for an appropriate English version of their own name is often a bad idea. They use a given translation without knowing (a) how bad it is or (b) what good alternatives there are. Wegesrand (talk) 13:31, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
