Query re First Black Player to Score in Cup Final
[edit]Are you there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.150.7.107 (talk) 00:16, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry if you got upset by my edits to the page. Please don't be. However, Garth Crooks was not the first black player to score in an FA cup Final. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.150.7.107 (talk) 00:23, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Shall I edit the article to refect this then, or will that make you angry again?78.150.7.107 (talk) 00:28, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- As you have calmed down at last I suggest you start by explaining your reasons and evidence that the current wording you are unhappy with is incorrect here on the Talk Page. You need to provide a verifiable source or sources for your contention. Leave others to form and express a view and see where this goes. The current wording has a citation so it would not be appropriate to just delete it. Take things in stages and seek concensus. I have changed the section heading to something more appropriate Tmol42 (talk) 00:36, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Meanwhile stop deleting the article you have been warned on your talk page twice(talkhere), you are seriously trying one's patience Tmol42 (talk) 00:40, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Right then Dave (Can I call you Dave?). I suggest you look up the Wikipedia article on the 1966 FA Cup final. Then go right on and use your internet machine to take a look-see at the Wikipedia article on a Mr. Mike Trebilcock. Report back to me with your findings. Take your time, I'm in no rush. - You're strangely quiet, Dave. Is it taking you a while to understand? 78.150.7.107 (talk) 01:00, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Please don't use sarcasm it just gets you nowhere, see Wikipedia:Civility and don't call me Dave by the way. On your search suggestion this is not how it works see Sources and Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary and tertiary sources. In short, you need to find sound secondary sources as per these guidelines which back up your contentions and lay them out here so others can go and check them first. Asking other editors to Google is not how it is done. I suggest you take some time out to read through these guidelines and follow up as advised, Tmol42 (talk) 01:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- No need for the anger David, we all get made to look foolish at times, even myself on some occasions(!). I've found you some secondary sources you so desire, you may think that it was very hard work but don't worry, it was pretty simple. Almost anyone could have done it.

- Think you can manage looking at all these links? If it's too much, maybe ask a responsible adult or something. 78.150.7.107 (talk) 01:25, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- You, sir, seriously need to work on your manners. Just because you're cowardly hiding behind an IP doesn't mean you can waltz in here an insult people who don't agree with you. Tmol42 has asked you not to call him Dave, and he was absolutely right in saying that your sarcastic attitude will get you nowhere. In fact, for your trouble, I'm going to ask an admin to look into your comments here, and I think you'll be lucky if you avoid a temporary editing block. – PeeJay 09:52, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Comment via Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts. It'd help calm things down to get to the sources. I'm pretty sure biography.jrank.org is not up to WP:RS standard: no indication of credentials or known reputation; it's just some website. On the other hand, newspaper sources are viewed as reliable, and it's not difficult to find ones - [1] - that show Trebilcock definitely pre-dates the claim for Crooks. Trouble is, the papers are divided on the matter, and others say Crooks [2]. While the latter are undoubtedly wrong - here are clippings [3] - I guess we have to report both versions. Gordonofcartoon (talk) 17:08, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sources for Trebilcock may be saying "black" when they mean "mixed-race." Common sense tells me that Trebilcock was the first mixed-race goalscorer and Crooks was the first black one. GiantSnowman 18:21, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit]The page made reference to Mike Trebilcock being the first black player to score in an FA Cup Final, if you check his page it makes reference to Bill Perry being the first in 1953.Statto74 (talk) 11:26, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
