Gaz Oakley no longer identifies as a vegan. This happened after he obtained rescue chickens last year and commented he has no problem with eating backyard eggs, he has also been giving them to friends to eat. This caused a backlash from the vegan community who have accused Oakley of being a "carnist" [1], [2]. There is a screenshot here [3] where in conversation he doesn't identify as vegan.
Oakley has deleted his former avantgardevegan name on all social media, for example his Instagram [4] and Twitter [5] were changed in August 2023 to just his name Gaz Oakley. He no longer calls himself "Avant-Garde Vegan" or describes his recipes as being vegan. The article may need to be updated. Psychologist Guy (talk) 02:09, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think he just changed his branding. His bio still identifies him as vegan.
Classicfilms, Gaz is no longer vegan. I say this as someone who has received a lot of private emails about this topic from other vegans and have seen social media posts from Gaz. You are correct that he identifies as vegan on that webpage but it has not been updated. That webpage was created in late 2022. From around June or July 2023, Gaz started distancing himself from veganism, he doesn't like that label anymore. I don't think any of this really matters right now as we are in WP:OR terrority as lack of sourcing currently exists on this but in the future plant-based should be added to his article as this is the correct term. Ah, I see the issue. Ok, we are back to the discussion| we had in Nov. '23 about vegan, veg, and plant-based. Notice the points I made about Deborah Madison and Frances Moore Lappé. Both absolutely must be on the template as far as I'm concerned, despite the fact that Madison has moved away from fully vegetarian and Lappe never was - because of their impact. I don't object to adding his name to the plant-based template if WP:RS appear in the future, but for the moment this discussion is, as you pointed out, in the realm of WP:OR. The only thing the Wikipedia can do is stay within the realm of WP:RS. -Classicfilms (talk) 15:54, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
