A fact from Gladys Quander Tancil appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 9 August 2023 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Gladys Quander Tancil interpreted the lives of her enslaved ancestors at George Washington's Mount Vernon for more than twenty years?
The following is an archived discussion of the DYK nomination of the article below. Please do not modify this page. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as this nomination's talk page, the article's talk page or Wikipedia talk:Did you know), unless there is consensus to re-open the discussion at this page. No further edits should be made to this page.
Overall: It's just long enough to fulfill the length requirement (1851 characters). WP:EARWIG shows no copyright problems. The article itself seems to be neutral. But I'm not sure that the short description is neutral: concerning the history of Mount Vernon in general, was she really a "prominent figure"? For example, the article Mount Vernon does not mention her. My suggestion would be to reduce the short description to "Historical interpreter at Mount Vernon". Strictly speaking, the source does not verify the claim "for over twenty years" since, when the article was written, it was exactly 20 years. However, the Washington post article could easily be added as a source to confirm this claim. QPQ is not required since this is the first nomination.
As a side note: I'm not sure that this article fulfills WP:Notability. The Washington post article mentioned above is about her so I assume it should be fine. But I'm not an expert on this issue and WP:Notability is not a DYK condition. Phlsph7 (talk) 08:10, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
